Focus Description:

After shuffling the deck, the performer takes out one card from it and places it vertically on the illusion table. She remains standing. Taking out another, he places it horizontally on the standing card. The third puts on the lying second. Then he takes the fourth, fifth, etc. from the deck and continues to put the cards one on top of the other, alternating positions: standing, lying down. Gradually, a card pyramid is erected on the illusion table (Fig. 66, A). But the performer still has a good half of the cards in his hands, and he builds another pyramid next to the first.

Focus secret:

There are ten or twelve cards on the pyramids. And each of them has six cards - with a secret. One deck is enough for this trick.

The secret cards are attached in advance on a stand from the "shirt" side, and they are held vertically in the same way as desktop photo frames. Each stand is made from half a card, and for six "secret" cards, three more spare cards are needed. They are cut from top to bottom in half somewhat obliquely (Fig. 66, B), and each half is glued along one of the sides of the whole card with a piece of "adhesive tape", as indicated in Fig. 66, V. To do this, you need to put one whole card on the table in front of you with the "shirt" up, and the prepared half - "shirt" down, press them tightly against each other with even sides and glue them back to back. Then fold, wrapping the secret half behind the main card (Fig. 66, D).

Having thus prepared the required number of cards, they are put into one deck, alternating secret cards with ordinary ones. In order for the stand to fit snugly against the card, the corners are attached with tiny pellets of plasticine (Fig. 66, E).

For greater effect, it is better to show the trick on a small illusion table covered with glass or plexiglass: the audience sees that there are no secrets in the transparent table.

This trick is demonstrated very easily. The main thing is not to let down the order of the cards, which must be carefully checked before the performance. The first card in the deck is always secret, and it is placed first on the table and will be the bottom in the pyramid. It should be placed very carefully in the center of the table, simultaneously bending back the back half (stand), thanks to which it is very stable standing upright on the table. Then an ordinary card is placed on top of it, which is kept on the standing card also thanks to the stand. This is how a pyramid of cards is built. Then next to it, you can build another.

A somewhat more complicated version of this trick looks even more impressive: 2-3 thin glasses are built into the card pyramid, best of all cognac, made of thin glass on a long stem.

On the illusion table, the performer places glasses next to the desired deck of cards (Fig. 67, A). Having started demonstrating the trick, he takes the first secret card from the deck and puts it on the table. Then he places the next regular card on top of it, which forms a square. On this site, instead of another secret card, the performer puts a glass. He again puts an ordinary card on it, and already puts the next secret card on this card (Fig. 67, B).

For this pyramid, the number of secret cards can be reduced, and how many simple ones are needed is easy to calculate. The order of the cards in the deck must match the order in which the pyramid was built. Preparation is done, as always, in advance.

This option of the trick can be demonstrated independently, or it can be done in parallel with the first option, that is, first build a card pyramid on the table, and then next to it another - interspersed with glasses. It will look even more spectacular than two identical card pyramids.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Microplastics can enter the brain 03.06.2023

Tiny plastic particles enter the body with food, water and air, accumulating in tissues and cells. This is no longer news, and take it for granted. Scientists even brought out the name for this phenomenon - "plasticosis". But it was believed that the central nervous system is sufficiently protected from the penetration of foreign material by the blood-brain barrier. However, scientists have found that plastic is able to overcome it. And within a couple of hours after eating, microplastics can even penetrate the brain.

The millions of tons of plastic that end up in nature every year are not dead weight. Slowly decomposing, they spread in soil, water and air, getting into living organisms. Tiny plastic particles accumulate in plants and animals. And subsequently can cause the most serious health problems.

How does plastic find its way into our fabrics? With food, it ends up in the intestines, from where it is carried by blood and other fluids throughout the body. Penetrates into tissues, even affects cells. Until now, it was believed that so far there is one organ that is reliably protected from plastic pollution - this is the brain.

But new work from scientists at the Medical University of Vienna has shown that the central nervous system is defenseless against plastic. Experiments on mice that received several particles of polystyrene with food showed that as early as two hours after eating, the smallest particles ended up in the brains of animals.

The blood-brain barrier of the central nervous system is formed by several layers of particularly densely packed cells. They control the movement of substances between the CNS and other parts of the body. And they protect it from microbes, toxins and even "external" immune cells that can cause great harm to sensitive nervous tissue. As the experiments of Kenner and his colleagues showed, only small plastic particles, the size of which does not exceed 0,001 millimeters, can overcome this limit.

Scientists have found that a key role in the ability of microplastics to penetrate the blood-brain barrier is played by its biomolecular crown. Only a tiny fragment of plastic appears in the body, various biological substances, including cholesterol, “stick around” its surface. It is the presence of such a shell that allows tiny particles to overcome the last level of the body's defenses and end up in its holy of holies - the human brain.

So far, scientists find it difficult to clearly say what violations the accumulation of microplastics in the body will lead to. But it is known for certain that plasticosis is at least evidence of contamination of the body.
