Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: At the back of the stage, a large "silver" urn stands on a stand. The performer approaches it and knocks it upside down, showing the audience that the urn is empty. Suddenly, a bright electric bulb lights up at the bottom of the urn, and the whole scene is plunged into darkness. The performer stands near the urn so that a sheaf of light coming out of it brightly illuminates his face and hands. Here the magician slightly raised his hand and caught a cigarette out of the air, brought it to his mouth and, as if lighting it from the outgoing rays, took several puffs. The cigarette flared up, blue smoke comes out of it. After lighting a cigarette, the performer throws it into the trash. Then he catches a second burning cigarette in the blue haze. After taking a few puffs, he throws this cigarette after the first one. It is followed by a third, a fifth, a tenth... Smoke is already pouring from the depths of the urn. And the performer continues to extract cigarettes from the smoky air and throw them into the urn. Turning it upside down, he pours the still smoking cigarette butts of many cigarettes onto the floor (Fig. 46).
Focus secret: The urn consists of a nickel-plated stand in the form of a tripod 20 cm high. In the upper part, the legs are connected by a metal ring. A conical vessel of thin, shiny iron or any suitable material is inserted into it, coated outside and inside with silver paint. The diameter of the metal ring in the tripod should be slightly larger than the circumference of the bottom of the vessel. A light bulb of at least 100 watts is mounted in the bottom. The wire from the lamp is led backstage, where at the right time the assistant turns it on. Inside the vessel there is a secret partition made of the same material as the vessel itself. It runs obliquely from the middle of the inner wall to the center of the bottom, where the bulb is located, and is attached only in the lower part adjacent to the bottom of the vessel. The upper part of this plate is movable and is equipped with a secret hook at the end, brought out through a hole in the wall of the vessel (Fig. 46, B). Having thrown back the secret partition, you need to pour two dozen cigarette and cigarette butts into this cache and close the partition on the hook. The "charged" urn is placed next to the illusion table. Now she is ready for action. On the middle finger of the right hand, from the back, they put on a bracket-holder with a non-burning cigarette planted on it. Three burning cigarettes are stuck between the fingers of the left hand from the side of the palm (Fig. 46, C and D). Then the focus demonstration begins. First of all, you need to tilt the urn and show the audience that it is empty. After that, a sign is given to darken the stage and at the same time light the lamp in the urn. A sheaf of light will hit the ceiling with an oblique beam. In this beam, only the hand and face of the performer are visible. In such a "mysterious" setting, the main part of the trick is demonstrated. The performer, one by one, takes out all three burning cigarettes, which he holds ready in his left hand and, having smoked properly, throws them one by one into the urn. From the inflamed cigarettes, clouds of smoke are knocked out of the urn, forming a bluish smoke screen interspersed with light rays. From this smoke, the performer, as it were, continues to extract cigarettes. But now this is only an appearance: the magician manipulates one cigarette, which is hidden behind the middle finger of his right hand on a secret bracket. The performer shows it and immediately hides it again, making only such a movement as if throwing a cigarette into the urn. So he manipulates, say, 15-20 times. Then, finally, he really throws this last cigarette into the urn. Then, lifting the secret hook, it releases the secret partition. The stage lights up. The performer turns the urn upside down.
