Focus Description:

The performer asks one of the women sitting in the auditorium to borrow an engagement ring. The spectators, of course, hesitate at first, but the performer convinces them that the ring will not go anywhere. In the end, there is a spectator who decides to give the performer her wedding ring.

The performer asks the owner of the ring to stay on stage. Then he takes a small rod from the illusion table, on both ends of which nuts are screwed. The performer asks the lady to unscrew one nut and put her ring on the rod. When this is done, the performer asks the spectator to tighten the nut again until it stops. Now the ring can no longer jump off the rod (Fig. 48, A). But the performer covers the rod with a handkerchief, counts to three and discards it. And the audience sees in the hand of the performer the same rod with nuts tightly screwed on its ends, but without a ring, and in the other hand - a ring (Fig. 48, B).

Focus secret:

For the trick, you will need a metal rod 7-8 cm long and 5 mm in diameter - such that you can put on a wedding ring of any size on it. One end of the rod is threaded, a nut is screwed onto it. The other end is unthreaded. A secret nut in the form of a bolt head is tightly put on it (Fig. 48, B). It is cut across into two halves. On both ends of one half there are two spikes, and on both ends of the second there are two holes corresponding to them. The spikes fit tightly into the holes, and the cut line of the nut becomes invisible. The thickness of each nut is approximately 1-1,5 cm; the outer dimension is taken in such a way that any ring cannot come off the rod.

The rod is placed on the illusion table, and next to it is a colored handkerchief measuring 25x25 cm. The trick is demonstrated in the same sequence as described at the beginning. Having unscrewed the nut, the performer puts the ring given by the spectator on the rod and tightens the nut to the end of the thread so that no one has any doubts.

Then, holding the rod with the ring in one hand, the other covers this hand with a handkerchief. Having begun to count, the performer with his free hand quickly disconnects the brackets of the secret head of the bolt under the handkerchief, removes the ring from the rod and immediately puts the secret head back in its original place. This must be done clearly, quickly, without fuss.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Photonic chip converting waves with high efficiency 27.04.2021

American scientists have created a photonic chip capable of effectively changing the frequency of the incoming signal and amplifying it at the output using nonlinear optical effects.

Coherent frequency conversion has many applications in the field of classical and quantum information transmission, visualization and detection. This process is crucial for the connection between classical and quantum devices - as a result of it, the frequency of the signal changes, but the initial phase and envelope of the wave remain the same.

The authors of the new study have created photonic chips that can efficiently convert incoming frequencies using non-linear optical effects. Photonic devices were chosen for a reason - they consume low power, scale well and have a small size. In addition, optical effects that are not available for other platforms are possible in such chips.

Physicists have presented a new circuit for highly efficient frequency conversion on a photonic chip. When generating the sum frequency - a non-linear optical process that can convert the frequency of the incoming signal - the device uses only the phase matching condition for the two modes. This significantly increases the speed and reduces the complexity of the process.

Experiments have shown that the highest efficiency was observed for converting a signal with a frequency of 1560 nanometers into a wave with a frequency of 780 nanometers. The efficiency rate was 42% - higher than for many modern devices. By creating cascade optical effects in the chip, the authors were able to increase this value to almost 100%.
