Focus Description:

Is it possible to make a scarf, cut into two parts, become whole again? It turns out yes!

And an illusionist can do this. Here he holds a scarf in his hand, folded in half, takes scissors and cuts the scarf into two parts. Then he ties the newly cut ends with a double knot and... casts a mysterious magic spell. Everyone is waiting for a miracle! Now the two halves should again form a whole scarf.

The magician takes the scissors, cuts off the knot and... Oh, miracle! The scarf is whole again.

And here is the “wrong side” of the trick. Of course, not a single wizard in the world can make a whole one out of a cut scarf. The fact is that no one cut the scarf!

To demonstrate the trick, you need to prepare in advance.

Let's take a scarf 1-1,5 m long and another small piece of the same scarf (20-25 cm). You need to make a ring from a piece of a scarf, fastening the ends to each other with threads. The threads should be the same color as the scarf. You need to thread the scarf into the scarf ring. The scarf with the ring should be held as shown in Figure 1, and the back of the palm should be facing the audience.

It is better to also hide the place where the ends are fastened on the scarf ring and not show it to the audience. The magician uses scissors to cut the scarf ring (Fig. 2) and tie its ends with a double knot.

At first it will be difficult to tie a knot - after all, you will have to do it with one hand, only helping with the fingers of the other hand in which the scarf is held. But you can’t let go of the scarf, because the audience will immediately guess the secret. Of course, you can ask an assistant to tie the knot, but it is better to learn how to do this without assistants.

Magic words are pronounced for greater persuasiveness and mystery. Now you can cut the knot (Fig. 3). Just do this carefully, trying not to damage the main scarf. Then the scarf can be shown to the audience. She's whole!

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

paper battery 19.01.2023

Scientists from Singapore have learned how to make batteries from household waste that are twice as good as those used by modern smartphones.

Nanyang Technological University has developed a new method to process disposable paper packages, bags and cartons into electrodes for rechargeable batteries. The researchers used a laser to cut paper waste into thin sheets with gratings of various shapes, then they were heated to 1200 degrees Celsius in a special furnace without a flame. As a result, paper turned into pure carbon, water vapor and oils.

The scientists turned the extracted carbon into electrodes, and the resulting cells showed superior durability, flexibility, and electrochemical properties associated with the structure of paper fibers.

Laboratory tests have shown that a battery with such an anode can withstand up to 1200 charge and discharge cycles - twice as much as modern smartphone batteries. In addition, they are five times better able to withstand physical exertion by absorbing shock.

The Singaporean researchers have filed a patent for their technology with NTUitive, NTU's innovation and enterprise company, with a view to bringing it to the commercial market in the future. Carbonization of paper, in their opinion, occurs without burning oxygen, so some carbon dioxide is released.
