Focus Description:

A tripod is set up on the stage on a table, on which a large glass vase full of water is suspended on chains. The magician comes out holding a rod with a fishing line and a float. He talks about his passion for fishing, about how he always successfully catches fish with a line. At the same time, the magician takes a fishing rod and throws it into the auditorium. A jerk with a rod, hooking, and a goldfish trembles at the end of the fishing line (Fig. 219).

The magician removes the fish and lowers it into a vase hanging on a tripod. Then, taking a “worm” from a jar standing on the table, he puts it on the end of the fishing line and again throws the fishing rod into the auditorium. Hooking, and the second fish trembles on the bait, the artist removes it and lets it, like the first one, into the water. So the magician repeats four or six times. Having lowered the last "caught" fish into a vase, the magician removes the vase with fish and carries it to show the audience (Fig. 220). Spectators see goldfish floating in a vase.

Props:

1. Fishing rod - fishing rod, fishing line and float with a secret for the "worm" - "fish";

2. "worms" - "fish", five or six pieces;

3. a vase for fish with a rim having a secret device;

4. tripod with three chains for hanging the vase.

A fishing rod, that is, a fishing line with a float and a rod, any, at the discretion of the magician. On fig. 221 shows: float 1, cork 2, which enters the tube 3. A short fishing line with a fish from an orange satin ribbon is tied to the lower hole of the tube. Fish 4 is painted, the scales, head, eyes and fins are visible to the viewer. A small piece of wire is sewn into the tail of the fish.

Fig. 221

The fish is made in the following way. The silhouette of a fish is cut out of an orange satin ribbon and the scales, fins and head are drawn on it with ink. The length of the fish is 10-12 cm, the width is 3-4 cm. A piece of thin fishing line 15-20 cm long is sewn to the head of the fish. The other end of the fishing line is tied through the hole to the end of the tube 3. The length of the tube is 4,5-5,5 cm, diameter it is equal to the diameter of the fish rolled around the wire 5. The fish is rolled around wire 5 and wrapped several times with fishing line, with which the fish is tied to the tube. Then carefully insert the fish into the tube 3. It is necessary to accurately select the dimensions of the fish and the tube so that the folded fish easily enters the tube and does not fall out of it from an accidental push. The fish should fall out of the tube only from a sharp jerk. It is necessary to carefully check whether the fish is well kept in the tube and whether it falls out of it correctly. To do this, take the tube in the hand down with the end where the hole is made and the fishing line is tied, and hold the hand from side to side, slightly shaking the tube. If the fish did not jump out at the same time, then you can continue the test further: with a sharp push, raise your hand with the tube up - the fish should jump out and hang on the fishing line. In the same way, you need to check all the tubes with fish.

Cork 2 is machined from conical copper, tapering downwards. A thin hole is drilled in the cork for fishing line. The fishing line passed through the cork is tied with a large knot, and the cork is held on the fishing line. The cork should fit snugly into the tube and not pop out of it.

Float 1 is carved from wood and painted with oil paint. A hole is made inside it, into which the tube with the fish inside should easily, without friction, enter. First, a cork is pulled out of the float, a tube is tightly put on it and hidden in the hole of the float. This is the technique of "charging". So that the viewer does not notice the tubes in the magician's hand when he puts on the "worm", they must be painted in solid color.

After "charging" the work on the trick proceeds as follows: in the right hand they take a rod with a fishing line, and in the left hand a float with a tube with a fish "charged" in it. Taking the rod to the side, pull the line and smoothly release the float from the left hand. When he is in the right place, they immediately pull the rod sharply, as if hooking a fish, and immediately a fish will tremble at the end of the fishing line. Leading the fishing line to yourself, you need to make inconspicuous frequent movements with the rod, which is why the cloth fish, fluttering, will create the illusion of a living fish. You should lead the fish towards you in jerks so that the audience cannot notice the imitation.

A vase for fish with a rim containing secret devices for live fish. The design of the rim is very simple, but requires careful execution.

For a trick, you can take any glass vase, but best of all - a large ceiling lamp for electric lamps. Such a ceiling has bent edges, thanks to which it will hold well in the edges of the rim. On fig. 222, B shows a ceiling-vase, A is a metal rim, best of all nickel-plated copper. Three rings are soldered to the top of the rim, to which hooks of chains are attached to hang the vase. The rim is hollow, inside it has five or six compartments. Small troughs swinging on the side axes for water and live fish are built into these compartments. If you carefully consider Fig. 222, B, it will become clear how the rim works at the moment the button is pressed - a live fish, together with water from trough D, falls into a vase. Rice. 222, Г - this is a section of the rim and the trough, rotating on the axis. The trough is designed in such a way that it always tends to roll over down. Bulkheads are embedded inside the rim, in which they are mounted on the axes of the trough D, held by a small reclining lever. The end of the lever is imperceptibly brought out on the side of the rim, and if you only lightly press it, the trough will immediately turn over and the fish, along with the water, will fall into the vase. The above construction is very simple, but, we repeat, it requires great precision in execution.

Focus preparation and demonstration:

First of all, we advise you not to use more than four fish, because, firstly, unnecessary repetitions will tire the audience and, secondly, extra work will be required in the manufacture of the rim. Before demonstrating the trick, the fish are "charged" inside the troughs. This is very easy to do, since the rim is cut into several sections on the inside (according to the number of troughs). These parts of the rim, thanks to the hinges at the top, can rise up, giving access to the troughs. At the trough, the inner edge is heavier, and, therefore, it always pulls the trough down. Only the existing spring arm, which we talked about, keeps them in balance. Having opened the door of the side walls, water is poured into the troughs and the fish are carefully lowered, then the side doors are lowered down and the rim is hung on the hooks at the ends of the chains at the tripod.

After hanging the rim, insert a ceiling into it and fill the ceiling to the brim with water. The device is ready to work. If the tripod has low legs, then it is placed on the table, and if it is high, then it can be placed on the floor. A small box is placed on the table next to it, in which there are "worms" - tubes with folded fish. The first fish is preloaded into the float. The magician removes the caught fish, pretending that the fish is trembling in his hand, he brings it to the rim and, quietly pressing the button, releases the live fish into the vase, and hides the cloth one in his hand. Then, approaching the box, the magician imperceptibly puts it in the box and takes out the tube from there. Pretending to put the worm on the hook, the artist imperceptibly attaches the tube to the cork and threads it into the float. So that the audience does not notice splashes of water when the trough is overturned, you should momentarily close the rim with your hand, masking the pouring of water.

Self-guided goggles 25.01.2003

Oxford professor D. Silver invented self-guided glasses that are suitable for all people without exception, suffering from poor eyesight.

In order to "adjust" the glasses to a specific person, you need to press two small buttons on the temples, after which the degree of curvature of the lenses will change. According to the professor, his invention will help billions of people who cannot go to an ophthalmologist, primarily in third world countries. For example, in the African state of Ghana, there are only 20 oculists per 50 million inhabitants.

The company founded by the professor has already arranged deliveries of self-focusing glasses to Africa at a price of $9.
