Focus Description:

On the stage stands a large Chinese porcelain vase on a massive beautiful stand supported by four bronze dragons. The illusionist approaches the vase, holding a large embroidered Chinese veil in his hands (Fig. 206).

Slowly pulls back the covers. The vase is gone! Instead, an assistant in a Chinese costume stands on a stand (Fig. 208).

Focus secret:

The secret of this graceful illusion lies in the use of a collapsible vase of strong painted silk or fine leather, which can be well stretched and painted. The vase is made on a frame of wire hoops. Inside the vase there is a girl who holds it in the right position with the help of two small sticks attached to the upper hoop. Wire hoops give the outline of the desired contour of the vase. They are fastened together with elastic rubber. As soon as the sticks are lowered, the rubber immediately tightens the entire frame, which goes into the stand. The assistant, having freed herself, quickly and imperceptibly spreads the rug, which was rolled up, with her foot. Now this rug reliably hides a vase that has developed on the frame.

On fig. 209 shows the frame of a vase with an assistant standing inside. The neck is separated and put on over the vase after the girl is already in the "vessel". As soon as the vase needs to be folded, the assistant lowers the sticks, which are pulled up with elastic bands under her suit; the assistant removes and folds the neck of the vase and also hides it under the suit. All this should only take a few seconds. The work of the assistant must be especially clear so that the audience cannot notice anything suspicious.
