Focus Description:

There is a box on the table. The magician opens it and shows by passing his hand inside that there is nothing in it. Not content with this, he takes the box and lays it out as shown in fig. 98, A. After that, he folds the box, bringing it to its original form, and then opens it again, showing the audience (already from the other, inside). Finally, the performer collects the box and places it on a table with a very thin top board. Then he opens the box and takes out a living dove from there (Fig. 98, B). Having put the dove on the table, the illusionist again shows the box: it is empty, just like at the beginning of the number.

Focus secret:

The secret of the trick lies in the device of a swinging sideboard, embedded in the bottom of the box. The sideboard is designed in such a way that it allows you to transfer the pigeon at will to one or another side of the bottom (Fig. 99).

The movement of the sideboard is indicated by an arrow. So that it cannot slip through and open on the other side, stoppers are made at the ends of its walls, shown by arrows C. The sideboard is pasted over inside with a cloth from which the valve is also made. Rubber is sewn into it, it does not allow the pigeon to fly out or fall out during the vibrations of the sideboard. At the same time, pulling the sideboard from above, it makes it easy to get the pigeon out of the bag formed in the sideboard. The sideboard is made in such a way that at the slightest pressure it, swaying, moves to the other side of the bottom.

There are small hooks in the corners of the box that keep it assembled. When the box is on the table, the sideboard with the dove is inside it. When showing the number, the magician, lifting the lid, lowers his right hand into the box; under the cover of the walls, he bends his arm, showing by this that all of it is inside and reaches to the very bottom. Then he runs his hand inside the box. He closes the lid and tilts the casket forward, with the lid towards the audience, and with the other hand imperceptibly transfers the sideboard with the dove to the other side of the bottom (remote from the audience). Then the performer opens the lid, unlocks the hooks inside, lifts the lid up and slowly pulls it, as well as all the walls, carefully watching the sideboard, which is now facing the illusionist (see Fig. 98, A).

Then everything goes according to the description of the external effect. If the magician is experienced enough and will work out the trick well, then he can easily show not only the outer sides of the box, but also the inner ones. He should slightly turn around and, by pressing his body on the sideboard, transfer it to the other, outer side, and at this time show the audience the inside of the box. This can be done several times. It will be very effective if, having thus shown the opened box twice, the performer, without putting it on the table, collects it in his hands and takes out the dove from it, and then again shows the box, spreading it in front of him.

This apparatus allows the magician to take the initiative widely during the performance of the performance. It should only be noted that the sideboard must be made very carefully and not have any cracks or gaps. You can make small notches in the frame rim, and edges on the edges of the sideboard, which in this case can serve as stoppers; going out into the recesses, they will well mask all the slots of the sideboard.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The material is 10 times stronger than steel 14.01.2017

A group of scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has created a lightweight and durable material from graphene flakes. As you know, graphene is considered the most durable material to date, but turning it into a three-dimensional form was considered a difficult task.

The density of the new material is 20 times less than the density of steel, while it turned out to be 10 times stronger than steel.

To obtain the material, experts squeezed small “flakes” of graphene at high temperature. According to scientists, the resulting three-dimensional structure is somewhat reminiscent of some corals. It was possible to create a material of high strength due to a certain arrangement of "flakes" in space. A special configuration was achieved using a high-precision 3D printer.

In addition, new research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has refuted the assumption put forward by other groups of scientists, according to which it is possible to create solid three-dimensional objects from graphene, lighter than air. It was assumed that such materials could be used as a replacement for helium in balloons. According to the Massachusetts researchers, at such a low density, the material simply would not withstand the pressure of the surrounding air and would collapse.
