Focus Description:

The magician shows the audience a painted wooden cube (sides 10 cm). Points are drawn on the cube. The public examines it and sees that a small (1 cm in diameter) through hole passes through the cube. Approaching the table, the performer takes a small rectangular box without a bottom or lid. Its size is slightly larger than a cube, the thickness of the walls is 2 cm. The box has two holes, one on each side wall.

Having shown the box, the performer places it on the cube, which fits into it completely freely. Then he shows the audience that the holes of the box and the cube match. Taking in his hands a small piece of curtain cord 80 centimeters long, the magician pulls it through the box and the cube (Fig. 70, A). The performer pulls the lace back and forth several times, then passes the ends of the lace to one of the spectators, and he quickly grabs the cube and easily removes it from the box, which remains stitched through with the lace (Fig. 70, B).

Props:

A cube with sides of 10 cm and a hole in the middle.

A box of four planks 2 cm thick and 6 cm high (the width is made according to the size of the cube).

A piece of curtain cord 80 cm long.

Focus secret:

The secret is that the drawer inside has cutouts (grooves) 6 mm deep and wide. A thin, strong thread is inserted into them in advance, the ends are brought out into the side holes, where it ends in a loop and lies completely unnoticed. The thread does not interfere with the movement of the cube in the box.

Having inserted the cube, the magician takes the cord and wraps one end of it in a loop. Inserting a cord into the hole of the box and cube with one hand, with the other hand he imperceptibly drags the lace along the groove, first along the edges of the cube, along the slot, and then under the cube, again along its second edge, and pulls the end of the lace out of the hole (see Fig. 70, A).

It seems to the audience that the cube and the box are pierced through and through with a cord; for further proof, the performer can also poke a thin “magic” wand through the hole. Then, having taken it out, he pulls out the cube completely freely.
