Focus Description:

The magician shows his hands - there is nothing in them. He fixes special attention on his left hand (Fig. 216, A). A slight wave of the hand - and a lit cigarette appears in the hand (Fig. B), which the illusionist lights up, having previously shown his hands empty again.

Cigarette.

Device for the appearance of cigarettes.

The secret is very simple. Looking carefully at Fig. 217, you will see that the cigarette is held on the back of the palm of the right hand, and the audience does not see it, because the hand is facing them with the palm. The same moment is shown enlarged in Fig. 2; nearby, in Fig. 3, a secret device is shown - a small copper strip 7-9 mm wide, curved into a semi-ring in the shape of a finger. To the middle of the strip is soldered a loop of string wrapped wire, on which the mouthpiece of a cigarette is tightly fitted. This device with a cigarette put on it is put on the middle joint of the middle finger of the right hand from the back of the hand.

Now you can even open your fingers, as shown in fig. 216, and the cigarette will not be visible to the audience. Making a forward movement with his left hand, the conjurer quickly clenches his hands into fists, turning their backs to the audience, and everyone can see, it is not known where the cigarette came from. It is necessary to paint the device to match the color of the hand, so that with its brilliance it could not betray the secret of the trick.

This trick can be varied. The illusionist takes one or two puffs with the cigarette, passes it again to his right hand, where he imperceptibly puts it on the device and, showing the cigarette in his hands, unclenches his hands - the cigarette has disappeared. The appearance and disappearance can be repeated several times, which, of course, requires dexterity, which is achieved by careful training.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Sunswift 7 high-speed electric car 23.12.2022

A team of engineers from Australia are claiming a new world record for their Sunswift 7 electric vehicle. The solar-powered vehicle has been tested to cover 1000 km on a single charge in less than 12 hours.

The Sunswift 7 electric car weighs only 500 kg. That's about a quarter of the weight of a typical Tesla car. To invest in such a small weight limit, engineers had to abandon the air conditioning system, ABS brakes, airbags, wipers and other features familiar to production cars. Instead, engineers focused on aerodynamic efficiency and rolling resistance. If the Tesla Model S has a drag coefficient of 0,208, then the Sunswift 7 has a drag coefficient of only 0,095.

The team spent two years building the Sunswift 7 with the goal of setting a Guinness World Record and demonstrating the fastest solar-powered electric vehicle that can travel over 1000 km. A record attempt was made recently at the Highway Circuit test track at the Australian Automotive Research Centre, when the Sunswift 7 covered 240 laps on a single charge.

It took 1000 hours 11 minutes and 53 seconds to cover the 32 km distance, and the average speed was 85 km/h. Drivers changed every few hours. On the way to the finish line, the team had to solve several problems: battery management and a punctured tire.

So far, Sunswift 7 is unofficially considered the fastest electric car, covering more than 1000 km without recharging. The team is awaiting official confirmation of time and vehicle telemetry data in order to receive a Guinness World Record certificate.

"Within this record, energy consumption was only 3,8 kWh/100 km, while today even the most efficient electric vehicles on the road only achieve a rating of 15 kWh/100 km, with an average of around 20 kWh/100 km," said the CEO. Team Professor Richard Hopkins.
