EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES Table-cover. Focus Secret Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: The performer says that in childhood he read a fairy tale about a self-assembly tablecloth and a table-cover. With the current state of science and technology, this is not difficult to do, which he will now try to convince the audience. A table is brought onto the stage; it has six large metal cylinders. They are all numbered. Two chairs are placed at the table with their backs to each other; a long board is placed on them, on which the illusionist places the cylinders, arranging them by numbers (Fig. 150).
Then he takes cylinder 1 and shows that it is empty inside (Fig. 151).
He puts his hand through it, immediately takes out the tablecloth and spreads it on the table. After that, he again shows that the cylinder is empty, and immediately takes out several small napkins from it, which he puts on the table, on the tablecloth. Once again showing the cylinder empty, he passes it through cylinder 2 taken from the board. Again showing cylinder 2 empty, he again passes cylinder 1 through it (Fig. 152) and immediately begins to get forks, spoons, knives from cylinder 2. Having convinced the audience that cylinder 2 is empty, he takes cylinder 3 and threads the second one through it. Having again shown that cylinder 3 is empty, the second passes through it again and immediately removes glasses or wine glasses from cylinder 3.
The magician does the same with subsequent cylinders. The whole difference is in the things taken out of them. From the fourth, he takes out various tableware items, two bottles or a monad. From the fifth, he takes out plates and various snacks. Everything taken out is laid out on tablecloths, setting the table. From cylinder 6, having done the described manipulations with it, he pulls out other snacks, filling the table with them. Finally, having demonstrated that there is nothing else in the sixth and inserting the fifth, fourth, third, second and first into it in turn, he puts all the cylinders together and hands them over to an assistant, who takes the equipment backstage. The table is fully set for two. The illusionist, having invited one of the spectators, invites him to drink a glass of lemonade and try some fruit (Fig. 153).
Performing this number on a children's matinee or on a Christmas tree, you can give the children gifts taken out of the cylinders. Props: The focus prop is very simple. To make it, you will need thin roofing iron, a little oil paint, oil varnish and a little skill with a soldering iron. However, in order to show this number, constant training and extensive experience in handling equipment are necessary. It is necessary to learn how to easily and without any effort to pass one cylinder through another, imperceptibly shifting the "charge", without arousing the suspicions of the audience. With practice, you will quickly master the technique of threading cylinders. Six cylinders-pipes included one in the other. One of them with a secret device. Hooks for hanging things in cylinders (20-25 pieces). Tablecloths large and small; table setting and snacks; lemonade bottles. Six cylinders are made of simple roofing iron. With skill, they make a thin roofing seam or simply bend a piece of iron of the desired size and diameter and solder its edges well. Start manufacturing with cylinder 1 (Fig. 191), which has a very simple secret device. Then make cylinder 2 with a diameter a few millimeters larger than the first. Do the same for the third cylinder, etc.
Don't forget to paint them all inside with black oil paint. Let it dry thoroughly and paint again. When the cylinders are dry inside, prime them on the outside and after drying, paint them in the color of your choice. After the final drying, cut out a stencil from cardboard in the form of an ellipse, apply it one by one to the cylinders, outline the ellipse with a pencil and paint this place with paint of a different color, say, yellow, on which the numbers written in black from 1 to 6 will stand out well. Let the paint sit as long as possible. It’s better to let it dry and coat the outside of the cylinders with colorless oil varnish, which will preserve the color longer and give it a beautiful shine. Look at fig. 191, and the device of cylinder 1 (top view) will become clear to you. On the left side of it is a pipe hole of a smaller diameter than the bottom of the cylinder. The dotted line shows the direction of the walls of this inner cylinder, which is made by a cone in the form of a horn (Fig. 191,2). With its wide edge, it is equal to the diameter of the first cylinder. The cone is carefully soldered to the base of cylinder 1 and cleaned so that it is invisible to the audience. If we now turn the lower end towards the audience and quickly show them, then they, seeing the inside of the cone, will take it for the inside of the cylinder. Proving that the cylinder is empty, you put your hand through the narrow opening of the cone. The dimensions of the cylinders are arbitrary. We think that a good size for the first cylinder would be 35 cm high and 13 cm in diameter. The diameter of the narrow end of the cone is 8 cm. Then you get the sixth cylinder with a diameter of 17 cm. Hooks for hanging things inside the cylinders in the amount of 20-25 pieces are made of a steel strip 1 mm thick and 8 mm wide. The length of the short end is 15 mm, and the long end is 40-50 mm. The short ends of the hooks must be painted in the same way as the background of the cylinders and varnished. The hook placed on the edge of the cylinder must not be visible from the public (see Fig. 191,4 and 2). A tablecloth and two hand napkins, as well as serving, depend entirely on the taste and capabilities of the performer. Focus secret: The secret lies in the arrangement of the first cylinder. A tablecloth, napkins and everything that can be put there is placed in the space between the cone and the walls of the cylinder. Make sure that the charge does not protrude beyond the edges of the cylinder and does not fall out of it. If we look at the charged first cylinder from the narrow end of the cone, we will see it as shown in Fig. 191,3. And since our cylinder 1 will stand exactly on this side towards the table, the audience, of course, will not be able to see anything. No more charge is placed in the first cylinder. The second cylinder is loaded like this. Having made small bags with things and tied them with very thin threads, they tie them to the long sides of the hooks and hang them inside the cylinder so that the short side of each hook is outside, and the long side, together with the bag tied to it, is inside. The charge of the second cylinder must be of such dimensions that it passes freely, without touching, into the inside of the first. Therefore, it is convenient to place forks and knives in the narrow end of the cone. Cylinder 3 must already be loaded with things of a larger size: after all, they must enter the second cylinder. All other cylinders are also prepared for the session. True, the plates cannot be loaded there, so you will have to figure out how to quietly get them under the cover of napkins from under the board on which the cylinders stand. In appearance, this is the most ordinary board 20-25 cm wide and 4 cm thick. With such dimensions, hiding plates in it is not so difficult, and getting them under the cover of a tablecloth or napkins is even easier. Here are some guidelines on how best to thread the cylinders one through the other. After you have shown that the first cylinder is empty and removed all the charge from it by lot, put it on the table. Cylinder 2 quickly and carefully put on the first and just as quickly remove 1 from it. In this case, all the charging with hooks will pass from the second cylinder to the first. Having shown that cylinder 2 is then empty, put it on the table and pass cylinder 1 through it, which will "give" it all the charge. While the first cylinder is empty, then remove the charge from the second, and then proceed as described. You need to thread the cylinders outwardly casually, very calmly and at the same time carefully. Hang the hooks on the side away from the audience, then they won’t be noticed. This is one of the main conditions that must be strictly observed. We advise you to find your own method of performing this illusion. You can first show all six cylinders empty one by one, and then take out different things from them. Remember that our focus requires a lot of acting skills. Author: Vadimov A.A.
