Focus Description:

The performer opens the deck with a fan and offers to take a card, first to one spectator, then to another. He recommends looking at them carefully and remembering them (Fig. 70, A). He then asks the spectators to put these cards back into the deck, after which he carefully shuffles them.

The performer invites an assistant with a black silk scarf to the middle of the stage (Fig. 70, B). The magician counts: “One, two, three!” - and throws a deck of cards towards the assistant. The cards scattered across the stage, but two of them somehow ended up on the assistant’s black scarf (Fig. 70, B). It was these two cards that were taken out of the deck at the beginning of the trick demonstration and remembered by the audience.

Focus secret:

This trick requires a deck of cards, one half of which consists of aces of spades, the other of diamonds. In principle, you can take any cards, but there must be an equal number of them in the deck. As always, this secret deck of cards is placed on the illusion table in advance.

In addition to the prepared deck of cards, you also need a black scarf, which also contains a secret. The size of the scarf is 60x60 cm. It can be made of silk or satin, edged with fringe or cord. One half of the scarf is double. This secret half is cut out of the same fabric measuring 30X60 cm and attached with one large edge to the main scarf in the middle - along the center line. Two black buttons are sewn from the inside to the corners of the scarf and the secret half (Fig. 70, D).

An ace of diamonds is glued to the inside of the main scarf, and an ace of spades is glued to the inside of the secret half. The corners of the main scarf and the secret half are combined and fastened with buttons. The scarf is ready for display. The assistant goes on stage at the invitation of the performer, holding a scarf by the corners with buttons.

The performer takes a secret deck of cards from the table, first opens the top half with a fan and allows one of the spectators to draw a card from it. Then he folds it and opens it again with a fan, but this time the lower half and allows the card to be drawn out to another spectator. Thus, both spectators take cards known to the performer. Now the magician puts the cards in a deck, shuffles them and throws them into the air. The cards fly, and meanwhile the assistant unfastens the buttons on the scarf: the secret half falls, and the audience sees two cards spotted on the scarf.

The assistant's movement must be completely synchronous with the flight of the cards - the handkerchief cannot be opened either earlier or later. Everything should be carefully rehearsed - the success of the trick completely depends on this.

The second version of it is demonstrated as follows: the performer takes two cards chosen by the audience, and places the rest on the illusion table. Then he approaches the assistant and throws these two cards into the handkerchief, which until then had been folded in half by the assistant.

The assistant unfastens the buttons and releases only half of the main scarf. The other half and the secret half of the scarf remain in his hands.

Thus, the audience sees the secret cards on the open handkerchief, and the cards thrown by the performer are located between the secret and main halves of the handkerchief, which the assistant holds in his hands.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Asphalt with nanotubes 01.04.2010

Winter road icing is a problem in all countries with cold and temperate climates. Another solution is proposed at the University of Houston (USA): to lay carbon nanotubes in asphalt and heat them with a passed current.

In this way, it was possible to warm up a block of asphalt with an area of 25 square centimeters and a thickness of 10 centimeters from minus ten to zero degrees Celsius in two hours. As a heating layer, paper with an admixture of nanotubes, already mass-produced for electronics and inexpensive, was used.

Power consumption was only six watts. Of course, the energy consumption for the whole roadway will be much higher, but the developers hope that it will pay off by saving the cost of chemicals and road clearing by mechanical means.
