Focus Description:

- I need assistants, - says the illusionist and, together with an assistant, approaches the table (Fig. 124).

Focus Inexhaustible Chest
Ris.124

Both stand on the sides of the chest - the performer is on the left, and the assistant is on the right (we point the sides away from the viewer). The performer takes the bracket attached to the outer wall of the chest with his left hand, and puts it on the lid with his right hand. The assistant does the same on his side. Then the performer and assistant overturn the chest on the table and lift the lid up, as shown in fig. 125.

Focus Inexhaustible Chest
Ris.125

The performer, bending down, runs his hand inside the chest, proving that the chest inside is empty (this is also clearly seen by the audience). Then the lid of the chest is closed and put in its original position (see Fig. 124). The performer and assistant open the lid of the chest, and an assistant assistant appears from there (Fig. 126). She is helped out of the chest, and after bowing to the audience, she stands next to the performer. The lid is closed and the chest is again tilted into the position shown in fig. 125. Again they show the audience that the chest is empty, again close its lid and again put it in the position indicated in fig. 126.

Then the lid is opened, and a second assistant appears in the chest. They also help her out, and after that they do the same with the chest, that is, they close the lid, overturn (as in Fig. 125), close it again and put it in the position shown in Fig. 124, and then, opening the lid, they see that an assistant has appeared in the chest, which jumps out of the chest. Both assistants easily carry a table with a chest on it backstage.

For this illusion, it is necessary to prepare everything on the stage in advance, since it is very difficult to take out the chest along with the table and exercises, and only experienced qualified assistants can do this. The correctness of loading the chest is carefully checked, which we will talk about next.

Focus secret:

The secret of this number is the same as Miraculous box.

On fig. 167 the chest is shown with the lid open. A semicircular slope and a part of the board on which people lie are visible on the table from the back and side. Spectators do not see this: after all, the chest is facing them, and not sideways, as shown in the figure. The wall-bottom with round slopes attached to it to protect the floor should be of a certain height, and the width of the bottom should be equal to the width of the chest.

Fig. 167

The size of the chest is arbitrary. We performed this illusion with a chest 120 cm long, 60 cm wide and 152 cm high. Two adult assistants 90 cm tall and a midget XNUMX cm tall fit freely in it.

On fig. 168 two diagrams of the chest are given. Diagram 1 shows it from the side with the lid up. Here you can clearly see the hinged wall-bottom. In scheme 2, the chest is shown standing upright with a slightly raised lid; the dotted line indicates the wall-bottom.

For greater clarity, we present Fig. 169, where the chest is shown in section 1 - at the moment of overturning towards the audience with the lid closed; the position of the wall-bottom is clearly visible here. Scheme 2 shows a section of a chest standing on a table at the moment the lid is opened. In the drawings, people "charged" in the chest are depicted conditionally.

Fig. 169

A few tips from practice. When charging the chest, carefully check that nothing protrudes beyond its slopes. All this can be pinched by the lid and will not allow you to close it. You should start rehearsing at a very slow pace, making sure that the charge does not touch anything anywhere, and the chest itself can easily tip over.

Immediately you need to find comfortable positions for assistants and fix them. We cannot give any advice for this case, since practice has shown that each assistant is located in the chest in his own way, looking for the most convenient position for him.

Having prepared the chest for a rehearsal on stage, the performer goes to the auditorium, bypasses all the side and upper seats and examines whether the charging and slopes are visible during the overturning of the chest.

We advise you to carefully putty the chest, prime it well and paint it with oil paints, then, after complete drying, cover it with oil varnish.

This illusion is good to show on festive trees, the appearance of fairy-tale characters from the chest will be very effective. However, we do not recommend getting involved in a large number of participants. Four or five people are enough for this."

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Maya Pepper Cocoa 14.10.2002

In the north of Belize (Central America), archaeologists, excavating a Mayan settlement about 2600 years old, found ceramic vessels shaped like coffee pots.

Analysis of the scrapings from the walls of the "coffee pots" showed that cocoa was brewed in them. Traces of hot pepper, honey and cornmeal were also found in the plaque on the walls, so the taste of the drink was completely different from that of modern cocoa or chocolate. From the notes of the Spanish conquistadors, it is known that the Maya drank cocoa almost every time they ate, and especially liked to whip the drink into foam.

Until now, the oldest material evidence of the preparation of cocoa for food were finds in Guatemala, but they are almost a thousand years younger.
