Focus Description:

The assistant brings out a small table on which stands a once-drawn box full of colored confetti.

The performer approaches the box and takes from it a beautifully painted cup to match the box, and from it takes out a colorful scarf, which he hands over to the assistant who came up to him. The illusionist, holding a cup in his left hand, pours confetti into it from a box with his right (Fig. 88).

Having filled the cup full, he pours the confetti back into the drawer. He repeats this several times, all the time speeding up this process.

Finally, having once again poured a full cup of confetti, the performer places it on the table, while the assistant removes the drawer. Having placed a cup full of confetti on the table, the magician takes a handkerchief from his assistant and, covering the cup with it, removes it from the table.

The assistant, taking another, empty cup from the assistant, passes it to the performer, who covers the cup covered with a handkerchief with it. Then the performer takes both cups from the table, removing the top one, hands it to the assistant, then pulls the scarf off the cup filled with confetti and throws it on the table. The cup contains water, which the performer pours into another cup (Fig. 89). The confetti turned into water. The assistant cleans the table on which both cups are placed.

Painted box with colorful confetti.

Three cups, two of which are painted with exactly the same pattern.

The secret device is a confetti lid.

Beautiful silk, lined, handkerchief measuring 35x35 or 40x40 cm.

Focus secret:

The box is 40x40 cm and 30-35 cm high. In the middle of it there is a second bottom at a distance of 12-15 cm from the bottom bottom. Multi-colored confetti is poured into the upper part, and a cup of water, covered with a secret lid, which will be discussed below, is placed in the lower (bottom) part. The back wall of the box is cut lengthwise (Fig. 108) and attached on hinges so that it can be raised up or down, and then the box appears intact.

You can take simple aluminum cups, prime them well and paint them in the style of a box with oil-based varnish paints. The lower they are, the more convenient it is for the show. The diameter of the cups is 20-25 cm.

The secret device is shown in detail in Fig. 109, where A is a side view; B - frame on which the lid rests; B is a top view, and D is one of the four legs of this frame.

Focus Mysterious Confetti
Fig. 109

The lid-device consists of a blanket sewn from colored satin. Multi-colored confetti is sewn onto it using very thin silk, one on top of the other in such a way that from a distance it seems that the confetti are simply poured in a heap. It should be sewn so that the tire, which is sewn to the frame, folds easily.

The frame consists of four separate legs G, attached at one end to a wire ring. Attached to it is a cross-shaped plate, in the center of which a nail is soldered (see Fig. 109, B). It is needed to make it convenient to remove the lid-device from the cup.

The frame arches to the shape of a pile of confetti; the ends of its legs, which have protrusions at the bottom, rest against the sides of the cup. Thus, by covering a cup on the frame with a blanket, we will create the complete illusion that it is full of confetti, when in fact it is empty and you can pour water into it.

When we prepare a cup like this, pour water into it, cover it with a frame lid and place it under the box, lifting the door up, it will not be visible to the audience (see Fig. 108). Now, it seems to us, the whole secret is clear.

Let's describe the demonstration of this trick from the very beginning. All the equipment is prepared behind the scenes. Confetti is poured into the box. A folded handkerchief is placed in one of the cups and placed in the box. The second cup is prepared as we have just described. You just need to carefully straighten the frame lid and sprinkle a little more confetti on top of it to completely disguise the false lid.

Now all the preparations are over, and you go on stage.

After pouring confetti into an empty cup several times, pour it into the drawer and pour it again. For the last time, make the exchange: pretend that you are placing a cup filled with confetti on the table, but in fact, holding it in your left hand, bring it behind the drawer, and with your right hand take out another cup of water covered with a lid. Then you lift it up above the box, and with your left hand you quickly place the cup of confetti under the box and quietly lower the door on its back wall, thereby making this cup invisible to the audience. The box is taken away, making sure that spectators do not notice its back door.

You place the cup with the tire on the table and cover it with a scarf. Then cover the third cup on top of the scarf and, after making several passes, remove both cups from the table. Remove the top cup from the scarf and place it on the table. You pull off the scarf (taking the tire along with it by the nail) and, without looking, throw it aside behind the scenes or on the table. Then take an empty cup from the table (at this time the table is immediately carried away by the assistant along with the tire) and pour water from cup to cup several times.

You need to learn to easily and completely at ease remove the scarf along with the cover and throw it silently on the table so that the cover is not visible.

Also carefully practice the moment of replacing one cup of water with another. It would be nice if the performer, holding the cup of confetti with both hands, lowers it down and, as soon as his hands are hidden behind the box, immediately lifts the cup with the tire, quickly pushing the cup of confetti inside the box.

You can put a cup with confetti in a box and instantly take out another one with a tire from behind it, pretending that it is the same cup that you just lowered.

With careful practice of this trick, with skillful, quick replacement of cups (appearance of water), the trick will make a great impression on the audience.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Revolutionary chip for one cent 27.08.2012

A cheap electronic device that can be printed in millions could change the way you interact with everyday objects. A device called rectenna (antenna with built-in rectifier) was created by specialists from the National University of Suncheon and Paru. At a price of just one cent a piece, these devices can be placed on any item: food packaging, clothing, logos, signs, magazines, and more.

The device is a combination of antenna and rectifier, i.e. transmits and receives information and can convert alternating current to direct current. Rectenna can be printed on plastic film with 5 different e-inks. Rectenna can convert radio emission directly into electrical voltage, in particular, the new antenna can provide at least 0,3 watts.

New devices will allow people to directly "communicate" with surrounding objects, referring to them using, for example, a smartphone. In this way it will be possible to find out everything about the origin of the product, the menu of the restaurant or the content of the printed publication.

The new technology is very similar to QR codes, allowing users to take a photo of a square-shaped barcode using their smartphone. The difference is that the device has a small chip that can itself contain digital information. At the same time, the rectenna is cheap and does not need a separate power source. New devices can be made using environmentally friendly printing, and in large quantities. Thus, in the near future, most of the things and products we know, thanks to rectenna, will receive many additional functions.
