The article describes an antenna with circular polarization for operation in the amateur band 432 MHz. This antenna can be useful in its ability to compensate for signal fading caused by a change in the plane of polarization of the electromagnetic wave. Such changes, in particular, are observed when working through amateur radio IC3.

The advantages of this version of the antenna are simple design of available materials, wide antenna pattern, good SWR in a given frequency band. During its development, materials from the Internet were used [1, 2].

It consists of two crossed (rotated by 90 degrees relative to each other) three-element wave channels, which are displaced in space by a quarter of a wavelength. Schematically, the proposed antenna is shown in fig. 1.

The lengths of the elements of both antennas: 11 and 14 (reflectors) - 34,4 cm, 12 and 15 (vibrators) - 33,6 cm, 13 and 16 (directors) - 29,8 cm. Distances D to their centers relative to the starting point of reference (the center of the first reflector l1) are given in the table.

Table

Element D cm
l1 (reflector 1) 0
l2 (vibrator 1) 11,7
l3 (director 1) 18,5
l4 (reflector 2) 17,2
l5 (vibrator 2) 28,9
l6 (director 2) 35,7

The antenna is assembled on the basis of a non-reinforced PVC water pipe of a suitable diameter, approximately 0,5 m long. As antenna elements, you can use a rigid wire made of copper, brass or aluminum with a diameter of 1,5 ... 2 mm.

To fix the vibrators, it is necessary to provide special inserts made of plastic tubes, which must first be glued into the antenna carrier pipe. It is also possible to assemble the antenna on the basis of a square wooden block with a length of about 0,5 m, which will somewhat simplify the markings for the fasteners of the elements, but increase the mass of the structure.

To ensure matching of wave impedances, the vibrators of each of the three-element antennas are connected to a 50-ohm cable (of any length) through segments of a coaxial cable with a wave impedance of 75 Ohms, length k·λ/4 (k is the shortening factor). For a conventional cable with a solid polyethylene dielectric, this will be 12 cm.

The radiation pattern of this antenna is close to a hemisphere. The width of the RP at the level of -3 dB is about 90 degrees, the direction of maximum radiation is along the Z axis. The result of its simulation in the MANNA-GAL program is shown in Fig. 2.

The theoretical SWR calculated on the MANNA-GAL program is less than 1,5 in the frequency band from 425 to 445 MHz. With the dimensions indicated in the article, it reaches a minimum value of 1,1 at a frequency of 435 MHz.

The assembled antenna is shown in fig. 3.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Smart fabric from Apple 28.12.2017

Apple has received a European patent for "smart fabric". Such a fabric can be used in clothes and furniture, a case or a strap for an electronic device, endowing them with new qualities.

A feature of smart fabric is the presence of fibers with certain properties - conductivity, sensitivity to touch or deformation. These fibers can be both single and twisted into threads, including simultaneously with fibers from other materials. In addition, cavities may be formed in the tissue for other components. Other components can also be attached to the fabric using electrical and mechanical bonds.

The list of things that can be integrated into fabric includes integrated circuits and discrete electronic components, from resistors and capacitors to loudspeakers and various sensors.
