EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES 1 + 1 does not always equal two. Focus Secret Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: The magician comes to the forefront, takes a box from the table standing here, and with it comes to the edge of the stage. "There are three objects on this table: a box that I am holding (opens the box and shows that there is nothing in it), and two cubes, which I will also introduce you to." He closes the box, puts it on the table, takes the cubes, descends into the audience, approaches several spectators and allows them to inspect them. Then he returns to the stage, puts the dice on the table. Roll up both sleeves carefully and high. "Now, with your permission, I'll put the cubes in the box!" Having removed the lid and placed it next to the box, the magician slowly throws both cubes inside one at a time and closes the lid on the box. After that, he takes out a "magic" wand from his pocket. "The trick is starting, I ask you to watch me carefully." The artist makes several "magical" strokes of the wand and hides it in his pocket. Are you all sure those two dice are inside the box? - Yes!. No!. - heard from the hall, but most of the audience is silent. - I see that not everyone is sure about it. Then let's check. The performer once again carefully rolls up his sleeves, approaches the table and, without lifting the box, but only holding it, removes and puts the lid on. Looking slyly at the audience, he puts his hand inside the box and takes out one cube. Throwing it up, he catches it, shows it to the public, turning it in different directions, then puts it on top of the lid in front of the box. Looking again at the audience, the artist takes out the second cube from the box and, throwing it up and catching it, puts it next to the first one. - As you can see, those of you who had no doubts were right... But!. - The magician takes another cube out of the box and, turning it, puts it to those two. So slowly, one by one, he takes out 10-12 cubes. - As you can see, those of you who doubted were right! The performer pours the cubes into a box and gives it to the assistant who went on stage, who takes this prop backstage. Focus Secrets: Our box is already known to you by focus Flights of items, and its arrangement is clear from Fig. 25.
This is the first secret of this trick. The first two cubes that the artist showed to the audience, of course, did not have "secrets" and were taken by him ready-made from the "Disappearing Cubes" trick described before. Our second secret lies in the special design of the next ten cubes. These cubes are easy to fold, becoming flat, and just as easy to return to their original shape. They were folded and hidden in advance in our box under the falling bottom. When the artist showed the audience the "empty" box, he then placed it on the table and turned it upside down. Thus, when he put two cubes into the box, there were already ten cubes stacked flat. That's all the secrets of this illusion. It remains to tell how folding cubes are made. They are made only from real paper, other types of paper are unsuitable for this; painted in finished form with aniline liquid paints or ink using a soft watercolor brush; paint on the brush should be taken a little so that the paper does not get wet. Only the outer side of the cubes is painted. The brighter and more colorful their color, the better. The cube consists of two parts, the pattern for each of them is a strip consisting of five squares (Fig. 30, A). The strip of one part has a width of 30 mm and a length of 150 mm, which is divided into five 30 mm segments. The dimensions of the other strip are indicated in brackets in the figure. Along the dotted lines (along the ruler), having drawn several times with a pointed stick or the handle of a teaspoon, a groove is drawn, then the patterns are cut along the contour with a sharp knife. The strips are bent and glued along the grooves. We got two separate parts (Fig. 30, B and 30, C). One of them is smaller than the other in size and therefore can be inserted into a larger one. Let's smear the outside of the lower face of the smaller part with glue, insert it into the larger one, as indicated by the arrow in our figure, and let the glue dry.
We have a real cube with all six faces. Now, if you press on the edge that is formed by the inner insert, the inner part will, folding, come out of the outer one, which is clearly shown in Fig. 30, D. Then the outer part is folded. Thus, the cube folded and became completely flat, as you can see in Fig. 30, D. When folded, the cubes take up very little space, so they easily hide in small sideboards and pouches (small pockets in a magician's costume). Author: Bedarev G.K.
