Focus Description:

There is a metal stand on the magician's table, on which stands an ordinary faceted glass (Fig. 1). The audience is convinced that the glass is without any secrets when the performer removes it from the stand and pours water into it.

Then the artist throws out the water, puts the glass on a stand and covers the glass with a stand with a large handkerchief (also having previously shown the audience that nothing is hidden in the handkerchief).

After that, the magician picks up a small red silk handkerchief and shows it to the audience. Having twisted this handkerchief into a ball, the performer puts it first in the right hand, and then passes it to the left. Clutching the handkerchief in his left palm, the performer goes to his table, takes the "magic" wand, runs it over the palm of his left hand clenched into a fist: the handkerchief has disappeared. The artist puts the stick back in place and shows the audience empty hands.

Now the magician removes the handkerchief that covered the stand with the glass. To the surprise of the audience, the same red handkerchief that disappeared from the artist's hand turns out to be in the glass.

Focus secret:

A cut glass made of thick glass, a metal stand, a scarf measuring 40 x 40 cm and two red handkerchiefs measuring 25 x 25 cm - that's all the props of this room. As for the "magic" wand, it should always be on the table of the magician.

The secret of the focus lies in the design of the glass and stand. A hole is made in the bottom of the glass, which the performer can pinch with his middle finger at the moment when he pours water into the glass (Fig. 2). The hole, of course, should not be larger than the ball of the artist's middle finger, otherwise water will seep through the hole and expose the magician.

The design of the stand is somewhat more complicated, but it is also very simple to make it. The support stand is made of a tube, inside of which there is a piston. A small pin is attached to this piston, which is brought out from the side through a special hole in the tube.

In the upper part of the tube, the performer puts one of the small red handkerchiefs in advance (Fig. 3, a). When the artist covers a glass with a stand with a handkerchief, he imperceptibly presses on the pin. As a result, the piston rushes up the tube and with force pushes a red handkerchief through the hole in the glass, which was previously placed in the tube (Fig. 3, b).

Now the performer begins to manipulate the second red handkerchief. Taking it in his hands, the artist twists the handkerchief into a small ball and passes it to his right hand, pressing the ball with the base of his thumb to the palm of his hand. Then the magician makes a movement that imitates the transfer of a handkerchief from the right hand to the left. The attention of the audience naturally focuses on the left hand, which is clenched into an empty fist, while the handkerchief remains in the right hand of the performer.

Approaching his table for a "magic" wand, the artist lowers the handkerchief into any of the sideboards available on the table.

Taking a wand, the conjurer runs it over the palm of his left hand, clenched into a fist. Then he opens his hand, and the audience sees that the handkerchief has mysteriously disappeared. After that, the performer removes the handkerchief that covered the glass and stand, and takes out a red handkerchief from the glass.

Manipulations with a handkerchief-double should be done naturally, gently and, of course, imperceptibly, so as not to expose yourself.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Blurred Text Decoder 22.02.2022

To preserve confidentiality, pixelation is often used - "smearing" text into separate dots. But as it turned out, this may not be enough to maintain the secrecy of correspondence. Cybersecurity specialist Dan Petro has developed a software tool that can be used to easily restore "blurred" characters.

The idea of creating an algorithm came to an enthusiast after the IT company Jumpsec Labs launched a competition to decipher pixelated text. Although there are already solutions on the market that can improve pixel images of people or landscapes, they are not suitable for small characters like letters. Therefore, the specialist decided to create his own tool - and his idea was a success.

An open source algorithm called Unredacter is available for review. Publishing his brainchild, the specialist recommended that users no longer use pixelation or blur to hide information. According to him, the best way to protect will be black bars that completely cover the text.
