EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES Farmer and witch. Focus Secret Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: From the crowd of spectators eager to take part as volunteers in the next production, the illusionist selects one boy and two girls. On a small table to the right of the illusionist are two costumes: a witch and an old farmer. The girl must play the role of a witch. The illusionist sends her backstage so she can put on a costume and mask along with another girl who is assigned the role of a maid. While the girl is changing, the illusionist hands the farmer's costume to the boy, who plays the role of the old farmer in the story he is about to tell. The witch enters, and the boy leaves for the maid to help him put on a farmer's costume. After a little funny interlude, all three children gather on stage and stand around the illusionist: the farmer holds a pipe in his teeth, the witch leans on a broom, and the maid surveys and adjusts their costumes. Suddenly, the witch swings her broom at the farmer. As soon as the farmer's costume is thrown off, the audience is surprised to see that the girl who had just been a witch was dressed up in it. The second surprise is that the witch costume is now on the boy who was a farmer. Everyone applauds and laughs, the boy and girls are gratefully escorted off the stage. Focus secret: A. For this fun, space-saving production, you need two identical hooded witch costumes and one masked farmer costume. Note. All costumes must be tailored so that they can be instantly thrown over a dressed child. Q. For the farmer's suit, buy a blue cotton fabric and sew it in a large circle as shown in the picture. The child puts his head through the hole in the center of this circle, and the fabric in the form of a hoodie should hang from his shoulders to the floor. You can also complicate the costume by adding a shirt and sleeves to it, as shown in the figure. The shirt should be sewn from a red plaid material and sewn as an appliqué to the blue material. Note. The sleeves and arms in this case are just appliqué. C. The farmer's mask can be bought at the store. Please note that it is opaque, except for the slits for the eyes, nose and mouth. Sew a hood from the same blue material and sew (glue) it to the edges of the mask. A neckerchief doesn't hurt either. Make sure that the resulting mask can be easily put on the child's head. D. This is how the finished costume should look on the child. E. Two identical witch costumes are made in the same way, but for these costumes, take black material, on which sew contrasting patches, as shown in the picture. F. Buy witch masks and sew a black hood onto them. In both the farmer's costume and the witch's costume, the hoods must go down below the neck so that it is not possible to determine who is in the costume through the gap between the hoodie and the mask. G. The child holds the broom through the material of the hoodie. H. Now put one witch costume and one farmer costume on the table. The second witch costume and broom will remain with your assistant backstage on the left. 1. Ask the audience for help: say that the next production needs three volunteers: two girls and a boy. Usually in the children's audience there are a lot of people who want to. Select three children of approximately the same height, thank and apologize to the rest of the volunteers. The table on which the costumes are located is to your right. Place the children on the left. 2. Give the witch costume and mask to the girl you assigned to be the maid and send her backstage with the girl assigned as the witch to have the first girl dress the second. 3. In fact, backstage, your assistant puts a witch costume on a girl who is offered the role of a maid and sends her to you on stage, as shown in the picture (the triangle means one of the witch costumes). 4. As soon as the witch (actually the maid) appears on the stage, the boy goes backstage to change clothes, taking the farmer's costume. 5. Your assistant does not dress the boy in a farmer's suit. This costume he puts on the girl and sends her to the stage dressed as a farmer. The figure shows the current situation (the square means the farmer's suit). 6. While the "farmer" is walking on stage, the assistant throws a second witch costume on the boy, gives him a broom, but does not let him on the stage. 7. Note. The "farmer" and the "witch" are now standing on the stage next to the illusionist. What viewers don't know is that the girl appointed as the witch is wearing the farmer's costume, and the maid is wearing the witch's costume. 8. The illusionist addresses the witch, reminds her that she forgot the broom, and sends for the broom backstage, as shown in the picture. 9. As soon as the girl disappears backstage, the assistant sends the boy on stage in the second witch costume with a broom in his hand and immediately removes the witch costume from the maid. 10. As soon as the witch with the broom enters the stage, the illusionist calls the maid. The maid enters the stage and the performer thanks her for helping everyone change. 11. At the signal of the illusionist, the witch swings her broom at the farmer. The performer takes off the farmer's hoodie, and the audience laughs together, seeing the amazing transformation of a boy into a girl. The audience begins to applaud again when it turns out that a boy is hiding under the witch's costume. The dress-up staging is a very effective illusion: viewers can't figure out how the substitution happens. Thisthe principle is the basis of many big shows. This version is a classic and is a bright, fun and mysterious spectacle.
