Focus Description:

One card is selected from the shuffled deck and placed face up on the deck so that everyone knows which card it is. Then another card is chosen and placed face down on top of the previous one. Nobody knows what this card is.

The magician hides the deck behind his back and identifies the second card by touch.

Focus secret:

1. Take the deck so that you can quickly look at the bottom card. Make a fake shuffle 4 to bring the card to the top of the deck and, if you like, make more fake shuffles to keep the card on top or move it to the bottom of the deck and then back to the top. In any case, as a result, you should know what kind of card is on top of the deck. Let's say it's a two of clubs.

2. Put the deck on the table, remove it, dividing it into two piles. Ask a spectator, let's say Sophia, to choose one of the piles. If she chooses a pile with a two of clubs on top, take it and set the other aside. If she chooses another, set it aside and leave the one with the two of clubs at the top on the table.

3. Divide the stoic into two parts again, saying: "I think it's actually better to do this experiment using only a quarter of the deck, so would you choose one of the piles again, Ivan?" Ivan chooses and again, if he points to a stack with a two of clubs, you take it and put it aside; if he chooses another pile, you immediately remove it, leaving a pile on the table with a XNUMX of clubs on top.

4. In the end, you have about thirteen cards left on the table. Fan them out face down and ask Ivan to choose one card and then put it on top and turn it face up. Let it be the king of tambourines. Now ask him to choose another card from the pile and, without looking at it or showing it to anyone, place it face down on the king of diamonds.

5. Roll up the fan and ask Sophia and Ivan to remove the cards. If the king of diamonds is at the top, ask to remove the cards again.

6. Now take the stack and explain what you are going to do. Say, "I'm going to hide the cards behind my back and feel the king of diamonds.

This is a difficult task, since this card has too much drawing, but once I find it, I'm going to feel the card that is facing her and which none of us yet knows. So, if you bear with just a few seconds. You'll understand why I only use a quarter of the deck - you wouldn't want to wait for me to probe fifty cards or so."

7. While you are saying this monologue or your own reprise (which always sounds more convincing), slowly deal the cards behind your back from your left hand to your right, as you would if you were counting them. As a result, their order is reversed, so that when you're done, the king of diamonds will be face to face with the two of clubs.

8. Now you can say: "Well, I found the king of diamonds, and my fingertips tell me that the deuce of clubs lies face to face with it. This card is easy to identify: the shape of the clubs is well groped by the fingers."

9. Remove the cards from behind your back and spread them out on the table. The King of Diamonds will lie face up. Take the card that lies facing him, turn it over - and it will be a deuce of clubs.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

The thinnest nanofiber 11.02.2013

According to Toray Industries, its specialists have created the world's thinnest nanofiber with a diameter of 150 nm. It is twice thinner than the previous "record holder" with a thickness of 300 nm.

For the production of nanofibers, a multi-component spinning technique based on high-precision polymer flow control technology is used. The new nanofiber will be used in high-purity clean room air filters in semiconductor and liquid crystal glass industries.

As the diameter of the fibers decreases, the surface area to mass ratio increases, improving hygroscopicity, filtration rate and other indicators. According to the manufacturer, the new nanofiber air filter is equivalent or even superior to electrostatic filters, which are known for high performance but require additional processing steps, in terms of dust collection efficiency.

The new fiber can be used in the form of continuous threads or fabric, as well as being cut into pieces - for the manufacture of non-woven materials. Uniform fiber thickness provides materials with stable parameters. According to the manufacturer, the costs associated with mastering the mass production of a new fiber are not too high, since only part of the equipment is replaced. Serial production of nanofibers with a diameter of 150 nm in Toray is planned to begin in the coming years.
