Researchers from the US analyzed existing scientific publications and found that tree leaves can trap magnetic particles that enter the atmosphere along with exhaust gases. The magnetic field of such particles can be detected using special devices, determining the level of air pollution by the leaves of trees.

Employees of the University of Utah collected pine needles from several trees around the campus of the university. Three trees grew near the busy highway, and another was located far from the road.
