Focus Description:

The spectator receives an onion instead of an apple.

Focus secret:

To demonstrate the focus, you will need an "exchange" cover. It looks a bit like an ordinary lid used to cover dishes. It has a metal bump on top (Fig. a). The lid is divided by a vertical tin partition (Fig. b) into two equal sections. The lower, or open, part of these departments is semicircular.

Focus Desired and Real

A flat tin board - also semicircular - acts on a straight axis, passing upward through the center of the lid and ending at the top with a bump.

Turning this bump half a turn to the right or left, you can close one of the departments that is open, while opening the one that was closed. On the upper part of the semicircular tin board there is a small plug which, meeting the resistance of the vertical partition, prevents the board from making more than half a turn in both directions.

The item to be changed (in this focus - an apple), put on the table. Offer one of the young spectators an apple, but on the condition that he gets it if he first earns it with his dexterity.

Cover the apple with a lid. On the count of "Three!", when you lift the lid, the spectator should try to catch the apple before you cover it again. If he catches an apple three times, it will be his, but with one more condition: the viewer must immediately eat it. Say: "One, two, three!" - and lift the lid. The boy immediately picks up the apple. Repeat this a second time with the same result.

- I see that you intend to win - note to him. - Well, once again - and the apple will be yours. But I warn you, I'll be more careful now. One two Three!

The boy will rush forward and grab not an apple, but a large onion, because you managed to turn the cone half a turn, thus closing the open section with the apple and freeing the bulb.

- You won - tell the viewer, pretending not to notice the change.

- But don't forget the second part of our agreement: you must eat the winnings now.

One can imagine both the chagrin of the "victim" and the laughter of the spectators.
