High Voltage MOSFETs for High Speed Switching Devices

12.04.2016

Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE), the European electronics division of Toshiba Corporation, has introduced a new series of high-speed high-voltage MOSFETs for switching voltage regulators.

The four 800V and 900V n-channel devices feature low typical on-state resistance (RDS(ON)) down to 1,9 ohms. Target applications for the new devices are flyback converters for LED lighting, auxiliary power supplies, and other circuits that require switching currents below 5A.

The new enhancement mode MOSFETs are manufactured using Toshiba's eighth-generation Pi-MOS-8 planar semiconductor manufacturing process, which combines a high level of integration with an optimized cell structure. This technology reduces gate charge and capacitance without losing the benefits of low RDS(ON), the company said.

Toshiba envisions these MOSFETs as a low-current addition to the existing 800V DTMOS IV series with DTMOS4 Super Junction technology. The TK3A90E 2,5A and TK5A90E 4,5A transistors have a VDSS rating of 900V and typical RDS(ON) ratings of 3,7 and 2,5 ohms, respectively. The 4A TK80A4,0E and 5A TK80A5,0E transistors have a VDSS rating of 800V and typical RDS(ON) ratings of 2,8 and 1,9 ohms, respectively.

Toshiba's new MOSFETs feature an ultra-low maximum leakage current of only 10µA (VDS = 60V) and a gate voltage threshold range of 2,5 to 4,0V (at VDS = 10V and 0,4mA drain current) . All devices are shipped in standard form factor TO-220SIS cases.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming Motherboards 19.05.2019

ASRock will complement the Phantom Gaming motherboard series based on the Intel Z390 chipset with two new products - the flagship Z390 Phantom Gaming X and the simpler Z390 Phantom Gaming 7. Both motherboards are designed to create high-performance gaming systems based on Intel's eighth and ninth generation processors.

The Z390 Phantom Gaming 7 motherboard received a ten-phase power subsystem, while the flagship Z390 Phantom Gaming X has 14 power phases. In both cases, a set of 1151- and 2-pin connectors is available for additional power supply of the LGA 4v8 processor socket. Also, both boards are equipped with massive aluminum heatsinks with heat pipes.

Each of the new products has four slots for DDR4 memory modules with a frequency of up to 4300 MHz. The set of expansion slots includes three PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots, as well as two or three PCI Express 3.0 x1 slots for the Z390 Phantom Gaming X and Gaming 7 models, respectively. To connect storage devices, there are eight SATA III ports, as well as three M.2 slots for the flagship and two for the simpler model. The M.2 slots are equipped with aluminum heatsinks, and the Z390 Phantom Gaming X has a large RGB shroud.

The Z390 Phantom Gaming X motherboard is equipped with 802.11ax Wi-Fi aka Wi-Fi 6 as well as Bluetooth 5.0 wireless controller. The Z390 Phantom Gaming 7 only has an M.2 Key E slot for the wireless module. For network connections in each of the new products, a 2,5-gigabit Realtek Dragon RTL8125AG controller and an Intel I219V gigabit controller are responsible, and the flagship model has another Intel I211AT gigabit controller. The sound subsystem in each case is built on the Realtek ALC1220 codec.

The new ASRock motherboards will go on sale at the end of this month. The cost of the Z390 Phantom Gaming 7 will be almost $200, while ASRock will ask for all $390 for the flagship Z330 Phantom Gaming X.
