Focus Description:

You have a small handkerchief in your hand, which you show to the audience on both sides. They see that the handkerchief is ordinary, it does not hide any secrets in itself. There is nothing in your hands either. The left hand is extended and palm facing the audience, the right hand holds a familiar handkerchief. Cover the palm of your left hand with a handkerchief and pull it off after a moment - there is a pocket watch on your palm (Fig. a). Where did they come from? After all, you did not change the position of the hand.

Focus Unexpected appearance of the clock

After that, again for a second, cover the handkerchief in which the watch was, and immediately pull it off. The clock is gone. Show the audience a handkerchief - there is nothing in it. Then once again cover your palm with a handkerchief and pull it off again - there is a clock in your palm.

Focus secret:

It is not necessary to have a real pocket watch for the trick. All you need is the case and dial. Pocket watches have a ring by which the watch is suspended from a chain. Through this ring it is necessary to skip a piece of flesh-colored nylon thread and tie its ends (Fig. b.). You will get a loop that is not visible to the audience. The loop is put on the thumb of the left hand. The loop should be of such a diameter that the watch can rotate freely around the thumb.

Focus Unexpected appearance of the clock

Before demonstrating the focus, the clock hangs from the back of the hand. When you cover the palm of your hand with a handkerchief, at the same time make a movement with your finger to turn the clock. The watch should be in the palm of your hand when you remove the handkerchief.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

The admixture of carbon improves the electrical conductivity of copper 29.12.2023

Researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory have made significant progress in improving the electrical conductivity of copper using a graphene dopant. This discovery could significantly improve the efficiency of power distribution in homes and businesses, as well as increase the efficiency of motors for electric vehicles and industrial equipment.

Research on using graphene as a dopant to improve the electrical conductivity of copper provides promising opportunities for efficient energy distribution in various sectors. This technology could play a key role in improving the efficiency of electric vehicle engines and industrial equipment.

Metals, due to their unique properties, are widely used in various industries, including energy, the military-industrial complex, electrical engineering and electric transport. However, they have their limitations, such as being expensive, brittle, and durable. To overcome these limitations, engineers often use alloys - materials consisting of a mixture of several chemical elements, including metal.

The alloys have high strength, rigidity, wear resistance and thermal resistance. However, their main disadvantage is that they are inferior to pure metals in electrical conductivity.

When impurities are added to a metal, the temperature coefficient of electrical resistance usually increases. This means that as the temperature increases, the electrical conductivity of the metal deteriorates. Scientists were able to reduce the temperature coefficient of electrical resistance of copper alloy C11000 by almost 11 percent by adding graphene at a concentration of 18 parts per million. At the same time, no decrease in the electrical conductivity of the alloy was observed with increasing temperature.

Copper doped with graphene can be used in electric motors and generators operating at elevated temperatures. This is especially important for electric vehicles and industrial equipment, where electrical conductivity can deteriorate due to overheating. The new composite material allows operation at higher temperatures without compromising electrical conductivity.

As urban population density increases, the demand for electricity also increases. The use of new composite wire, which has increased electrical conductivity, can significantly save energy and provide more efficient distribution of electricity in society.
