The sheets of the notebook turn out to be either blank or filled out.

You will need a notebook with a volume of approximately 40 sheets.

Cut the first sheet obliquely so that its lower edge is 3 mm shorter. Cut the second sheet twice - from below and from above - cut obliquely towards the center so that both edges become 3 mm shorter. Cut the third sheet obliquely, like the first, but on the contrary, so that its upper edge becomes 3 mm shorter. The cutting line of the sheets is shown in the figure. Do the same with the rest of the sheets: cut the fourth one like the first; the fifth, like the second; the sixth, like the third, etc.

Leave the first sheet and all the others cut in the same way clean. On the next sheet, draw the outline of a drawing. Draw exactly the same contour drawings (can be different) on all other sheets, cut off like the second one. On the next after the second - third - sheet and others, also cut off, draw the same drawings, but already brightly colored.

If you flip through such a notebook, holding your thumb in the upper right corner, then all the sheets of the notebook will turn out to be blank: other sheets - with drawings, cut off in a different way, will scroll along with the clean ones, like one sheet, and they will not be noticeable. The next time you flip through the notebook, keep your thumb in the middle of the sheet on the right. Instead of blank sheets, they will have contour drawings. Flipping through the notebook again, keep your thumb in the lower right corner - now all the drawings will be colored.

From the side, the various cuts of the sheets are almost imperceptible, just as the position of the thumb in different parts of the notebook is not striking, which is why it seems that ordinary drawings first appear on completely clean sheets of the notebook, and then the same drawings are somehow also painted. If, before each subsequent flipping of the notebook, you also sprinkle confetti, as if it had something to do with the transformation, then the trick will look more impressive.

Safe fuel will not ignite when in contact with fire 08.10.2023

Scientists from the University of California have introduced a revolutionary fuel that does not ignite when in contact with an open flame. During the combustion of this fuel, only the evaporating molecules that react with oxygen are ignited.

The new development is designed to make the fuel safer, especially in emergency situations, by reducing the likelihood of accidental fire during storage or transportation.

Chemical engineers used ionic liquid as the basis for the new fuel, which is a liquefied form of salt. This liquid has a lower melting point and low vapor pressure compared to regular table salt. Experts also made changes to the chemical formula, replacing chlorine with perchlorate.

Experiments showed that when trying to ignite the ionic liquid with ordinary fire from a lighter, no combustion occurred. However, when voltage was applied in combination with the fire of a lighter, the fuel ignited. Interestingly, when the current was turned off, the flame instantly went out.
