Focus Description:

Have someone look straight ahead for a few seconds, then look up without looking up. The viewer will have to raise their eyelids for this. Tell him to look up as much as he can and then close his eyes. Closing his eyes, he must leave them in the same position, that is, look up.

Then invite him to open his eyes. Tell him in a firm voice that he won't be able to do this, although he will try to do this simple movement. When he fails to open his eyes, as indicated by the quivering of his eyelids, command him to relax, lower his eyes as if he were looking at his feet, and open his eyes. The viewer opens his eyes without any effort.

Focus secret:

There is a very simple muscular principle at work here. It is impossible to open the eyes when the gaze is directed upwards. Whoever tries to do this is very surprised.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Wind energy instead of nuclear 27.02.2013

The global capacity of wind farms in 2012 increased by 19%. Thus, wind energy technologies demonstrate an unprecedented growth rate and can become one of the main sources of electricity. According to a study by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), the rapid growth of wind energy use is observed almost everywhere. Statistics show the continued expansion of the market: in 2012, the total capacity of all wind turbines increased by 19%, to 282000 MW.

Canada remains one of the leaders in the development of wind energy, which last year commissioned wind turbines with a total capacity of 936 MW. At the same time, Canada ranks 9th in terms of the total capacity of all wind farms - 6500 MW, which is enough to supply almost 2 million homes. China and the US each added 13000 MW of new wind power capacity last year, while India added 2300 MW. Mexico doubled its wind turbine capacity from 569 MW in 2011 to 1370 MW at the end of 2012.

European wind energy markets have traditionally been led by Germany and the UK, with countries such as Sweden, Romania, Italy and Poland showing strong growth in wind energy use. In total, the whole of Europe in 2012 installed new wind turbines with a total capacity of more than 15000 MW. Now Europe gets almost 98000 MW from wind energy. Brazil is the market leader in Latin America. Last year, Brazil put into operation new wind turbines with a total capacity of 1077 MW, and the total capacity of all wind farms increased to 2500 MW.

Thus, the wind energy market is actively developing. In some countries, wind power is already rivaling nuclear power in terms of power. For example, in Germany, wind turbines in 2012 generated 31332 MW, Spain 22796 MW. At the same time, the number of wind turbines is constantly increasing, and the share of wind energy in energy systems is growing. At present, 24 countries have a total capacity of wind farms exceeding 1000 MW, and many countries continue to increase the capacity of wind turbines at a very rapid pace. For example, in Poland in 2011, 1616 MW were put into operation, and in 2012 - 880 MW, and the total capacity of all wind turbines was 2497 MW.
