Focus Description:

This trick is best shown among a small number of viewers or in an intimate circle of friends. It belongs to the so-called pocket tricks, as it is demonstrated with the help of simple, and most importantly, small props.

The artist takes out two small bars from his pocket, one of which has the shape of a rectangle, and the other is the shape of a pencil with a narrow slot at the end (Fig. 1). An elastic band is attached to a rectangular bar on one side, and a hole is made on its other side.

After allowing the audience to examine both bars, the artist invites one of them to try to get the slot of one bar into the loop of the elastic band of the other, introducing for this purpose a bar with a sharpened end into the hole of a rectangular bar (Fig. 2). At first glance, the matter is trifling, and there are always many who want to show off their skills. But, unfortunately, none of the spectators can do this. And the performer, taking the bars in his hands, does this without any difficulty.

Focus secret:

Two wooden blocks - that's the whole props of this trick. The features of their manufacture are clear from the drawings.

At the bottom of a rectangular bar there is a cork with an elastic band. On the opposite side of it, a hole was made, designed to introduce another bar into it.

The second block is machined in the form of a pencil with a tip with bevelled edges on one side and a slot on the other.

But the audience will not be able to complete the task proposed by the performer anyway, since they will look for the secret of actually getting the slot of one bar into the loop of the elastic band of another. And here you just need ingenuity. After all, such details as an elastic band and a slot in a bar mean nothing in this trick and play a deceptive role. The secret of the focus is not in them.

The artist only pretends to have hooked the rubber band. In fact, he presses with only two fingers - thumb and forefinger - on the beveled edges of the bar, and the bar slips out of his fingers, giving the viewer the complete impression that the stick is caught by the slot on the elastic loop and that the elastic is pulling the bar back (Fig. 3) .

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 09.08.2020

Qualcomm has created a fast charger for smartphones Quick Charge 5.

The Quick Charge 5 standard offers to charge a smartphone battery from zero to 50 percent in five minutes. The company estimates that if the charge level is less than 50 percent, then it will increase by about one percent every six seconds. Qualcomm is calling the new charging protocol "the world's fastest commercial smartphone solution."

The company's engineers tested the new standard on devices with a 4500 milliamp-hour dual-cell battery. When charging with a power of 100 watts, the load is distributed evenly on both battery cells, approximately 50 watts each.

Compared to Quick Charge 4, the new standard is 70 percent more efficient and achieves a reduction in heating temperature when charging by about ten degrees.

The new standard supports the USB Power Delivery protocol, that is, it can be used not only when charging smartphones, but also computers. The first devices with Quick Charge 5 support should be available in the third quarter of 2020.
