EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES Gotcha! Focus Secret Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: The magician takes three white rectangular cards, lifts them up and shows the audience that on one of them there is a square drawn, on the other a triangle, on the third a circle. Having folded the cardboards together, he wraps them with a strip of newsprint so as to form a bag open on both sides. Then, turning to the audience, the artist says: “You saw how the cardboards were wrapped in newspaper. Now I will take them out one by one.” Turning the bag with one of the open ends up, the magician pulls out of it with his thumb and forefinger, first a cardboard with a square, then a cardboard with a triangle, and says: “I’m afraid I won’t be able to pull out the third cardboard. It seems to have disappeared.” He immediately unwraps the package, takes one end of the newspaper with his right hand and lifts it up. Then with his left hand he lifts the second end of the newspaper and, holding it between the thumb and forefinger of his right hand, releases the first end. With this movement, the magician seems to show that the cardboard has disappeared, but the audience sees that it is hidden behind the upper end of the newspaper. To the laughter of the audience, he continues to show that he has “nothing” in his hands, until someone shouts that the cardboard is visible. At this time, turning to the audience, the magician says: “You probably think that I got caught, but in fact, you got caught.” Putting down the newspaper with his left hand, he shows the audience a cardboard on which, instead of the expected circle, the word is written in black letters: “Gotcha!” For a moment the spectators are confused, but then they say that the circle is drawn on the back of the cardboard and demand that it be turned over. On the inverted cardboard, viewers see the inscription: "Caught again!" Focus secret: First you need to prepare the cardboards. Take four pieces of thick white cardboard measuring 18 x 24 cm. On the first piece, write “Gotcha!” on one side, and “Gotcha again!” on the other. On the second cardboard, draw a large circle on one side and a square on the other. On the third cardboard, draw a triangle on only one side, and on the fourth, one square. Place the last cardboard on the cardboard with the circle so that about one third of the circle is closed. Glue the cardboards in this position and cut the top along the bottom. Let us recall that on the reverse side of the resulting composite cardboard there is a square drawn. If you now place the cardboard with the triangle so that it covers the edge of the double cardboard, it will seem that there are not two, but three. Behind the double cardboard, discreetly hide a cardboard with the words: “Gotcha!” and “Gotcha again!” After showing the audience three pieces of cardboard: a circle, a square and a triangle, stack them and wrap them in a strip of newsprint 90 cm long and 24 cm wide. Make sure that the audience does not accidentally see the back cardboard, on which it says “Gotcha!” Then, in front of the audience, begin to remove the cardboard from the bag. In this case, you need to know exactly how they are located in the package. For example, you want to take out a cardboard with a square. As you know, the second side of this cardboard is made up of halves of a circle and a square. Therefore, when taking it out, you need to be sure that its component side is not facing the audience. Having placed the first cardboard on the table, remove the next one from the bag - with a triangle. There are no secrets in this cardboard, so it can be shown to viewers from both sides. There is now only one piece of cardboard left in the package, on which are written the words: “Gotcha!” and “Gotcha again!” Unfold the package, hiding the last cardboard behind the newspaper. The newspaper should be held at one end with the thumb and forefinger of the right hand, and the cardboard with the other three fingers. Now tell the audience that the cardboard with the circle has disappeared. The audience, of course, will not believe it and will say that the cardboard is hidden behind the upper end of the newspaper. Lift the bottom end of the newspaper with your left hand and pinch it with the thumb and forefinger of your right hand, while releasing the top end. This will show both sides of the paper. However, this is not enough for the audience. They are convinced that the cardboard is hidden in the right hand. Then remove the newspaper with your left hand and show the audience that they "Gotcha!" After a few seconds, someone will suggest that the circle is drawn from the reverse side. Spectators will begin to demand that the cardboard be turned over. Pretend that you are very unhappy about the “failure” of the trick. At the moment when the audience begins to “celebrate” the victory, turn the cardboard over and show that they “Gotcha again!” We recommend interesting articles Section Spectacular tricks and their clues: ▪ The cards held by the spectators are reversed. ▪ How to extinguish a candle with a glance?
