Focus Description:

The magician goes into the auditorium and asks the audience to give him a pencil. Having received the pencil, he returns to the stage, takes a whistle from his desk and, raising it to his mouth, whistles. Then the artist, taking a small piece of thread, ties a whistle to one end and a pencil to the other. Now the whistle hangs in the air, dangling freely on a thread (Fig. 1).

Focus Magic Whistle
Ris.1

At the request of the audience, the whistle begins to whistle, although it still hangs on a thread and the artist does not touch it. The performer demonstrates a trick by descending into the auditorium. Showing a magic trick directly in the auditorium arouses increased interest among the audience and enhances the effect of the magic trick.

Focus secret:

The props of this trick are, first of all, a whistle, which the performer shows to the audience, then a second, secret whistle, which will produce the whistle at the right moment. In addition, you will need a piece of rubber tube and a rubber bulb. These items can be purchased at any pharmacy.

One end of the rubber tube is placed on the lip of the whistle, and the other on the rubber bulb (Fig. 2). The length of this device must correspond to the length of the performer’s jacket sleeve, inside which it will be hidden. The rubber tube is placed along the sleeve towards the shoulder, the rubber bulb is placed under the armpit, and the whistle should be approximately at the level of the cuff.

So, in the artist’s left sleeve is a secret trick device, in his right hand is a whistle suspended from a pencil.

Focus Magic Whistle
Ris.3

In accordance with the desire of the audience to hear the sound of the whistle hanging on the pencil, the performer squeezes the pear under his arm and the whistle whistles.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

ginkgo insecticide 01.11.2019

Chemists at Scripps Research (USA) have come up with an effective method to create a synthetic version of the plant compound bilobalide, which is naturally produced by ginkgo trees. This is a significant breakthrough because bilobalide and closely related compounds have potential commercial value as drugs and "green" insecticides.

Ginkgo trees produce an insect repellant compound, but it is not actually toxic to humans. The new method allows chemists to obtain and study bilobalide and related compounds relatively easily and much cheaper than previously possible.

The ginkgo tree (Ginkgo biloba) is considered a living fossil. Its related species existed on Earth 270 million years ago, before the advent of the dinosaurs, and managed to survive the subsequent global cataclysms that destroyed the dinosaurs, as well as many plant and animal species.

Given this heritage, it is not surprising that individual varieties of ginkgo trees today are unusually hardy and long-lived. Some specimens are thousands of years old. Traditional Chinese medicine includes the use of ginkgo extracts to treat various ailments. It is also believed that even the leaves were used in ancient times as bookmarks to protect against paper-eating insects such as silverfish.

A likely factor in G. biloba's longevity is a set of insecticidal compounds found in its leaves and nuts. These include the ginkgolide compounds, which can cause dangerous bleeding in people who take them in high enough doses. As well as lesser-known ones, such as bilobalide, which has a strong effect on insects, but, apparently, is practically not toxic to humans. Bilobalide is also rapidly degraded in the environment, which is an excellent property for a "green" insecticide.

However, bilobalide has a complex carbon skeleton structure with eight oxygen atoms, which makes its synthesis inherently difficult. Previously published methods have been quite time consuming, partly because of the difficulty of getting all these oxygen atoms in the correct position.

The new synthesis method, developed principally by graduate students Megan Baker and Robert Demore, and by Ph.D. Masaki Ohtawa, culminated in a procedure in which the bowl-shaped molecular architecture was revealed and the final oxygen atom was placed at a precise location within it.
