Researchers at the National Institute suggest that crystals made from the pure enzyme could act as an antidote that could fight pesticides and other poisons found on Earth. To do this, the astronauts will monitor how the growth of homogeneous crystals will proceed.

Enzyme crystals growing in microgravity on the International Space Station could help rid humanity of nerve poisons, scientists say.

David Jett, head of the program, said that such interest from scientists and the public is associated with an unstable situation on the planet and the threat of future use of chemical weapons.
