The device of water pumps was known even before our era, although the ancients explained incorrectly the reason forcing water to follow the piston.

They said that "nature is afraid of emptiness." For the first time in 1640, in Florence (Italy), when installing a pump (for pumping water from a very deep well, they encountered a seemingly inexplicable phenomenon: the water rose behind the piston to a height of only about 10 m. The help of scientists was required to explain this.

The Italian scientist Toricelli proved that the reason that water rises behind the piston is atmospheric pressure.

You can make a very simple model of a water pump yourself by using the hollow stem of a plant, such as angelica, or by taking a thick elderberry branch and removing the core from it. If the plant has partitions, cut the stem with a sharp knife so that one end of the tube is open, and cut off the other below the partition.

It remains to make a stick with a thickened handle that will tightly close the hole. It will be better if you put a rubber gasket on the stick, close to the handle. Wrap a rag on the lower end of the stick; secure it with a thread so that this piston fits snugly into the pump housing. Make a small hole in the lower partition with a needle - and the pump is ready.

The simplest pump

With this pump you will be able to collect water, launch a long powerful jet at 8-10 m and further, spray flowers. Its service life is small (2-3 days), as the stem will dry and let water through. But such a bamboo pump will be very durable and strong.

If your tube is open at both ends, then, of course, one end must be tightly closed with a stopper with a small hole in the center.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

One tenth of new laptops are with touchpads 15.05.2013

Referring to data contained in a report prepared by Displaybank, an analytics firm, the source claims that 2013 million touchscreen laptops were shipped between January and March 4,57. This corresponds to about 10% of last quarter's total notebook shipments of 46 million units.

If we compare the number of touch screen notebooks released in the first quarter of 2013 with the number of touch screen notebooks released in the fourth quarter of 2012, it turns out that the shipment growth of these products is 51,8%.

Considering that the market for touch notebooks is at the initial stage of development, Displaybank analysts regard these figures as very high.

Taiwanese manufacturers are particularly enthusiastic about mobile computers with touch input. Recall that Acer plans to equip every second laptop with a touch screen in 2014, and in the total supply of Asustek Computer laptops, touch models in the first quarter accounted for 20%.
