Leica Camera has expanded its Leica SL line of lenses with the versatile Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-70 f/2.8 ASPH full-frame zoom lens. According to the manufacturer, this is the "ideal lens" for a wide range of photographers, as it is suitable for reportage, studio, architecture and landscape photography, travel photography, as well as portraits, close-ups and video shooting. A wide range of focal lengths with a constant maximum aperture of f/2,8 is in demand by professionals, enthusiasts and novice users of the SL system.

By incorporating three elements with aspherical surfaces on both sides and nine glass elements with anomalous partial dispersion into the optical design of the lens, the designers were able to correct for chromatic aberration throughout the entire range of focal lengths. Silent stepping motor ensures fast and accurate autofocusing. The lens is weatherproof.
