Aeronaut is an old word. We are now more accustomed to the word "cosmonaut" - "floating in space." But first there were aeronauts - aeronauts. It was back in the XNUMXth century, almost two hundred years ago. Then lived in France two brothers Montgolfier, owners of a paper mill in the town of Anone. The older brother was a physicist. He drew attention to the fact that not only birds and insects fly. The smoke from the chimneys also rises. But if smoke can fly, can't you catch it, harness it, make it lift a load?

What to catch the smoke in? The paper manufacturer did not hesitate for long. Let's glue a light bag of paper! And in June 1783, the first flight took place. A wicker basket was tied to a ball filled with smoke. Who will sit in it? The daredevil was not found. And how do you know: will a person survive an air flight? To begin with, they put animals in the basket - a ram, a rooster and a duck. They became the first aeronauts.

Funny? Don't be too quick to laugh. Remember that 170 years after that, the dog Laika became the first space traveler. When the flight conditions were tested on a dog, people took off into space!

So it was in 1783 "After the animals landed safely, it was the turn of people. On October 19, 1783, Pilatre de Rozier and the Marquis d'Arlandes rose in a balloon in Paris. Their balloon, named after the inventors hot air balloon, was also filled with smoke A special brazier was suspended under it so that it could fly longer.

By the way, the Montgolfier brothers thought that it was all about the smoke. They didn't understand yet that smoke doesn't go up because it's smoke, but because it's hot! Warm air can lift the balloon without any smoke. Remember how you blow bubbles. The bubble, filled with warm air, took off, and did not fall until it cooled down.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Non-contact emotion recognition system 01.02.2018

Panasonic has introduced a "smart system" capable of remotely recognizing the emotional state of people.

A mechanically simple solution - two types of video cameras and an image processing system from Panasonic - allows you to achieve interesting results. "Looking" at a person, the device quite accurately assesses his emotional and partly physical state. For example, he understands that the subject is angry and has already turned red with anger. Or, on the contrary, in a strong disorder and therefore feels chills.

The cameras non-contactly record several basic indicators: pulse, blink rate and speed, the position of the eyebrows and mouth, and the temperature of the human body. After analyzing the results, the system determines the strength (from mild boredom to extreme excitement) and the modality of emotions experienced by a person. The latter indicator covers the full range of "feelings" - from complete dissatisfaction with oneself to extreme complacency, and all states in between: fear, anxiety, discontent, irritation, anger, deep unhappiness, discomfort, sadness, depression, boredom, drowsiness, fatigue, relaxation, peace and lightness, contentment, happiness, joy, delight, euphoria, etc.

It also takes into account how a person perceives external conditions - whether it is cold or hot. Whether he wants to sleep - drowsiness is assessed on a five-point scale. Measurements are taken at intervals of 15 minutes, which allows you to predict the dynamics of the state.

According to the developers, the solution will be an excellent addition to a smart home. By connecting it, for example, to lighting and air conditioning systems, it will be possible to correct a person's condition - if necessary, turn on air conditioning, soothing music, etc.
