The simplest model of a catapult you can build in the kitchen. One of the main parts is the spoon. It is best if there is a wooden one. By the way, it looks more like a spoon of a real catapult. A stainless steel spoon is fine too. But aluminum will not work: it will bend. And you should not take a ladle: it can also be bent. The bed of the catapult will be replaced by a small saucepan.

Instead of a tourniquet of bovine tendons, a rubber ring will have to be adapted. Very suitable rings are included with glass lids for home canning. Such a ring can be taken for a while, it will not deteriorate from our experience.

Purchased canned food in glass jars also have a rubber gasket in the form of a ring. This ring can be carefully removed from the metal lid when the jar is opened. True, with him the catapult will turn out to be weak. If you have an old bicycle, motorcycle or car camera, you can cut off a ring from it. Finally, a round rubber garter is also suitable.

Pass the ring under one of the handles of the saucepan and fold it in half. You will get two loops. Pass the handle of a spoon into them and rest it with its end in the corner between the bottom and the wall of the pan. The figure shows how to do this.

Lay the pan on the table so that it is supported by the free handle and the edge of the bottom. Put a projectile in a spoon: a table tennis ball, a small potato, a matchbox.

Now you can shoot. Pull the spoon down and let it go. Fuck! The spoon, pulled by the rubber band, will jump up and hit the edge of the pan. The projectile will fly out and describe a beautiful arc in the air. Perhaps a spoon will also fly out. But she won't fly that far.

Why did our projectile fly? As in a real catapult, he first moved along with the spoon. But the spoon hit the barrier and stopped. And there is no obstacle in the way of the projectile. And he continues to move by inertia, he flies, leaving the catapult!

By the way, in recent years, the catapult has again found application in military affairs. With its help, aircraft are launched from the decks of aircraft carriers and other ships, where there is not enough space for a normal run. And on jet planes, they use a catapult in order to throw a pilot into the air with a parachute in the event of an accident. He himself cannot jump out at such a speed: the air resistance is too great.

Of course, the device of modern catapults is completely different. But the principle is the same: the inertia of motion.
