We are talking about video game consoles (IVP) of the second generation, made on the basis of two LSI in QNP packages (97xx, 98xx with 160 and TA-06W, TA-06S - with 128 pins). In addition to them, the IVP board contains two HM53461ZP-12 video memory RAM chips and an R, G, B signal converter into a full video signal of the PAL KA2197D or СХА1145Р standard (the AUDIO signal passes through the same chip). As in other IVPs, an integral stabilizer 7805 is used to stabilize the supply voltage of microcircuits.

For troubleshooting, you will need an avometer and high-resistance headphones. After plugging the power adapter into a socket, measure the DC voltage (9 ... 14 V) at the plug-in connector plugged into the IVP (the "plus" of this voltage is on the external contact of the plug, and the "minus" is on the internal). If there is no voltage, look for malfunction: first of all, a break in the wires of the connecting cord, and if they are intact, in the transformer. If there is voltage, connect the connector to the TRS, turn it on and check if there is supply voltage (+5 V) on the corresponding pin of the connector board.

On fig. 1 shows a view of it from above with the cover of the IVP removed; here: 1 - network adapter connector; 2 - socket "AUDIO/VIDEO". The presence of voltage indicates that the 7805 microcircuit voltage regulator is working. Otherwise, make sure that there is this voltage at pin 3 of the microcircuit (Fig. 2, a) and a voltage of 9 ... 14 V at its pin 1 (both are relative to pin 2). The absence of voltage at pin 3 in the presence of voltage at pin 1 indicates that the microcircuit is out of order and needs to be replaced (it is permissible to use domestic KR142EN5A, KR142EN5V).

If there is a voltage of +5 V on the processor board, connect a modulator, a TV set, a cartridge, and a known-good joystick to the IVP. Turn on the IVP and start the game by pressing the "Start" button on the joystick. If the game starts, the repair is complete, otherwise the troubleshooting will have to continue.

Suppose after starting the game there is no image on the TV screen (both high and low frequencies), or there is an image, but no sound. In the first case, it is necessary to check whether there is a VIDEO signal on the corresponding pins of the board (Fig. 1) and the "AUDIO/VIDEO" socket (Fig. 2b). The presence of this signal can be judged by the characteristic rumble with a frame rate in the headphones connected to these contacts and the common wire (GND). Similarly, the corresponding contacts control the AUDIO signal.

Next, they check whether the VIDEO signal reaches pin 20 of the KA2197D (СХА1145Р) chip. After making sure that there is a voltage of +5 V at its pins 12 and 19 (relative to pins 1 and 24), connect the headphones to pin 20 and a common wire (GND). If no frame rate rumble is heard, the chip is faulty and should be replaced. In the absence of a microcircuit, it is possible to use the signals R, G, B and SYN (they are connected to pins 2, 3, 4 and 10 of the microcircuit, respectively), which are fed to a TV that has such an input.

The presence of the AUDIO signal is checked at pin 9 of this microcircuit. In the absence of a signal, in some cases (if there is a break in the circuit of this output), it is permissible to connect it to output 8, as a result of which the sound accompaniment is restored.

To "diagnose" the wires of the joystick connecting cable using an ohmmeter, you can use the connection diagram shown in fig. 3 (a fragment of the joystick board is shown from the mounting side of the droplet chip, and the socket is shown from the mounting side of the counterpart).

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Molecule from photons 13.10.2013

For the first time, it was possible to combine photons into a molecule - until now, even theorizing on this topic has caused fierce debate in the scientific community. Physicists Professor Mikhail Lukin of Harvard and Professor Vladan Vuletic of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have actually been able to create a new form of matter from particles of light. The discovery of scientists contradicts decades of conventional wisdom about the nature of light. It has long been believed that photons are massless particles that do not interact with each other. Simply put, two beams of light simply pass through each other. However, the "photonic molecules" created by scientists behave very differently and, in theory, make hitherto unbelievable things possible, such as the lightsaber from Star Wars.

“Most of the properties of light that we know are related to the lack of mass of photons and the fact that they do not interact with each other,” explains Mikhail Lukin. “We have created a special type of medium. In it, photons interact with each other so strongly that "they start acting like they have mass. As a result, the photons are bound together to form molecules. This type of bound photon state has been suggested by theorists for quite some time, but has not yet been observed."

When photons interact, they push against each other and deflect each other. That is, the lightsaber of the Jedi, a solid light pillar, in the light of the discovery of scientists, no longer looks like a stupid notion of science fiction. To force "normal" massless photons to bind to each other, Lukin and his colleagues pumped rubidium atoms into a vacuum chamber and then cooled them with a laser to a temperature several degrees above absolute zero. After that, using extremely weak laser pulses, single photons were sent into a cloud of rubitium atoms.

As the photon enters the cloud of cold atoms, its energy excites the atoms in its path, causing the photon to slow down significantly. The energy of the photon is transferred from atom to atom and the photon loses it, but in the end, it flies out of the cloud, remaining the same light pulse as before entering the cloud.

When a photon exits the cloud, its identity is preserved, as happens with a beam of light in a glass of water. In the case of rubidium atoms, this process is a bit more extreme - the light slows down significantly and loses a lot more energy. However, scientists were surprised by something else: photons came out of the cloud of rubidium atoms together, as one molecule. How are these "molecules" formed and why has no one seen such molecules yet?

The effect by which photons are converted into a special form of matter is called Rydberg blockade. It is based on the fact that when an atom is excited, neighboring atoms cannot be excited to the same degree. In practice, this means that when two photons fly into a cloud of atoms, the first photon excites the atom and is forced to move forward before the second photon excites another nearby atom. Simply put, photons either pull or push each other, that is, they interact with each other like molecules, albeit indirectly (through rubidium atoms). However, when the photons exit the cloud, they exit together, not as single photons.
