The idea to use the field-effect transistor KP904A in the power amplifier of the 2 m band arose involuntarily - while working in the "tropo" the KT931A transistor failed, and there was nothing to replace it with. Then the choice fell on KP904A (according to reference data, it is operational up to a frequency of 400 MHz).

The amplifier on this transistor is not critical to the quality of the power supply (in my case, it is powered by an unstabilized voltage of +55 V with a capacitance of the output capacitor of the power supply of 10000 uF), does not require special measures to stabilize the quiescent current of the transistor and has a very simple circuit (Fig. 1) . With an input power of 4 ... 5 W, the output power is 20 ... 25 W at a load of 75 ohms.

To obtain a greater output power (about 40 W), two similar stages can be switched on in series, supplying the pre-terminal stage with a voltage of +28 V, and the final stage - +50 V (Fig. 2).

The amplifier is assembled on a ribbed radiator with dimensions of 210x130 mm, the height of the ribs is 25 mm. The mounting of the radioelements is made on "spots" cut out on the board from the foil textolite.

During the installation process, special attention must be paid to the quality of the connection between the source of the transistor and the common wire ("case"). In my case, the source is soldered to a silver-plated plate, which, in turn, is soldered around the transistor hole on the board.

Resistor R1 is soldered directly to the terminals of the transistor VT1 and protects the transistor from failure if the bias circuit is open.

The winding data of the inductors are shown in the table.

Coil Number of turns The wire Mandrel diameter, mm
L1 4 RPS 1 8
L2 6 PEL 0,5 4
L3 2 RPS 1 6
L4 5,5 RPS 1 8
L5 10 RPS 1 4

Capacitor C 10 is of the SGM type, C6 is electrolytic, for an operating voltage of 100 V. The rest of the capacitors are of the KM type.

Setting up this amplifier is very simple. An equivalent load with a resistance of 75 (50) Ohm is connected to its output, and by rotating the slider of the resistor R3 (Fig. 1), the quiescent current of the transistor VT1 is set to about 200 mA. Then, a signal with a frequency of 145 MHz and a power of about 1 W is applied to the input of the amplifier (for example, from a "handic") and, by adjusting the capacitors C2, C3, they achieve the maximum current through the transistor VT1, and with the help of capacitors SI, C12 - the maximum voltage on the equivalent loads.

After the described pre-setting of the amplifier, a 5 W signal is applied to its input and the capacitors C11, C12 are again adjusted to the maximum output power. The amplifier circuit does not have protection against short circuit and from exceeding SWR, therefore, work on random antennas should be avoided. This recommendation is especially relevant for the two-stage version of the amplifier.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Ammonia from beer and boron 19.09.2020

Employees at the University of Würzburg have learned how to convert atmospheric nitrogen into ammonium chloride using beer and a compound containing boron. Industrially significant ammonia can then be isolated from this salt.

Today, ammonia and its salts are used to produce vast quantities of fertilizers and synthetic compounds for other industries. It is most convenient to create this gas from nitrogen contained in the atmosphere, because its volume fraction in the air is more than 78%. Today, the Haber process is used for this - a direct combination of hydrogen and nitrogen using a special catalyst. However, this process is associated with heating to significant temperatures and the creation of high pressure.

German chemists have found a way to reduce the cost of producing this gas. Two years ago, this group of scientists came up with a method for the synthesis of ammonia, in which the role of a catalyst - a substance that accelerates a chemical reaction - is performed by a light organic molecule with boron atoms. But then the chemists managed to carry out only half of the reaction: nitrogen was restored, but ammonia had not yet been obtained.

In the new study, scientists first accidentally added water to the reaction mixture and it turned out that the reaction in the system moved one step closer to the target product. Then the scientists decided to test how stable the process is to the presence of impurities. They added local Wurzburger Hofbrau beer to the system instead of water. It turned out that in such a medium the reaction proceeds to the target product.

This shows that the process invented by the researchers is resistant to the action of other compounds in solution and unpretentious in terms of the reaction medium. Although scientists have already managed to obtain active forms of ammonium ions and carry out more than half of the process, they have yet to find a way to convert these forms into the final product - ammonia.
