An attenuator is a device that allows you to introduce a strictly defined attenuation into a signal. As you know, the use of an attenuator in a shortwave transceiver (receiver), especially in the low-frequency bands, improves its dynamic range. Or, to put it more simply, it allows, under conditions of strong interference, to reduce their level below the threshold for the occurrence of intermodulation and blocking distortions in the receiver, but at the same time leave sufficient sensitivity to "pull out" the useful signal you are interested in. Practice shows that there should be several attenuator adjustment steps (up to 5-7) and the step of attenuation introduced by the attenuator is no more than 5 dB, a maximum of 10 dB, since with a larger step it is not always possible to "detune" from interfering interference. That is why for these purposes it is desirable to use a smooth attenuator, which allows, to the maximum extent possible, to ensure the reception of a useful signal under interference conditions. For example, attenuators in simple imported transceivers ("soap dishes") have only one adjustment step of -20 dB.

The proposed attenuator (see Fig.) has good linearity at various signal levels. The control range is limited by the internal capacitance of the broadband transformer and can reach 60 dB, while the maximum attenuation is introduced by the attenuator when the bridge is precisely balanced.

The specified attenuator can also be used to smoothly adjust the transceiver output power level, while maintaining a high signal linearity. Structurally, the attenuator is mounted on the terminals of a variable resistor, which, in turn, is placed in a tinplate screen, and its handle is displayed on the front panel of the transceiver. When using an attenuator as a power regulator, it is connected between the driver (preamplifier) and the power amplifier. The signal to the attenuator must be connected via the RK-50 (RK-75) coaxial cable.

Transformer T1 is wound with 7 turns of PELSHO-0,27 wire, folded three times, on a ferrite ring K 10x6x5 (or K7x4x2) with a permeability M1000NM.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Samsung is already working on 6G mobile communications 10.06.2019

Despite the fact that only in some countries the deployment of 5G networks is just beginning, and the number of compatible mobile devices on the market is not very large, this does not prevent Samsung from looking to the future and already developing the next generation of mobile communications - 6G.

Samsung has officially confirmed that it has expanded its existing telecommunications research team to the center level after the actual launch of the 5G network. This team is part of the newly established Advanced Communications Research Center within Samsung Research, which serves as the company's main research and development organization in Seoul.

In addition to 6G communications research, Samsung Research is also engaged in the development of artificial intelligence and robotics. It will take many years to launch the next generation mobile network. In fact, it will likely take a few years before 5G becomes mainstream in most countries.
