Many radio amateurs usually throw away old fiberglass printed circuit boards after dismantling parts. Meanwhile, these boards can serve as an excellent material for the manufacture of many different parts, cases for small appliances, brackets, racks, partitions, collapsible transformer cages, power compartment covers, insulating washers and gaskets, etc.

Depending on how you are going to use the recycled fiberglass, you should decide whether to remove the foil from it. If yes, then this is most conveniently done with a solution of ferric chloride or hydrochloric acid. A multilayer board is not suitable for the manufacture of a transformer frame, since it will not be possible to remove the foil from its inner layers and it can create closed turns in the transformer.

If holes need to be removed from the workpiece, they are simply puttied with epoxy glue. Large areas with intact foil on the old board should be cut out - they will be useful for making small boards. Thick plates can be glued together from several thin ones with the same epoxy glue. It is often possible to delaminate a plate of thick material into several thin ones.

It is difficult to enumerate all the possibilities of using old boards. Every radio amateur, no doubt, will cope with this task at his own discretion.

I want to note that the processing of fiberglass should be carried out very carefully - after all, this produces a lot of dust containing small particles of glass and epoxy compound that are harmful to health. Therefore, work should be carried out in a well-ventilated area, more often remove dust, chips and scraps of material.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Hot air balloon tours in the stratosphere 25.02.2023

The Japanese company Iwaya Giken has begun accepting applications for high-altitude balloon tours. The double capsule will ensure the delivery of the pilot with one tourist to a height of 25 km. It will be possible to feel like a quarter of an astronaut for a relatively modest amount of about $180. As the project develops, prices promise to fall significantly, which will make "flights into space" accessible to a wide range of citizens.

The tourist capsule looks like a barrel with a diameter of 1,5 m with transparent walls, ceiling and floor. A helium balloon will lift the capsule into the sky. The system, as you might guess, is reusable. In the future, the developers promise flights at intervals of a week, or maybe even more often, but everything will depend on the weather.

Flights to the ISS under space tourism programs cost several tens of millions of US dollars per person. Rising on reusable shuttles into the stratosphere to the edge of space by Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin is also not a cheap pleasure. Ideally, the price of a ticket for such an attraction with a rise of 80-100 km up from the Earth should drop to $ 250 thousand, but so far it is definitely higher. Hot air balloon tours will indeed become accessible to more people both in price and in the level of training required.

Ascent by air to a maximum altitude of approximately 25 meters will approximately take up to two hours. An hour will be spent at the height and then an hour's descent will follow. More fun for less money. Why not? The tours themselves are going to be organized by the specialized company JTB Corp, which has become a partner in the developer of the high-altitude platform.

The winners of the first round of selection will be announced in October. The first five passengers will be able to fly before the end of this year. Departures are planned to be organized from Hokkaido. The flights will take place over the territory of Japan. Ultimately, the cost of tours will drop to several thousand US dollars. This "democratizes" space flights, the organizers and inventors are sure.
