 Comments on the article

The dynamic filter IC K157KhPZ, used in a typical switching circuit, does not clearly process the highest frequency components of the signal at low levels. It is quite simple to get rid of this drawback: along with the change in the capacitance of capacitors C1, C2 and C4 proposed in [8] (see figure), conclusions 1 and 3, as well as 6 and 9 DA1 should be connected in pairs. In this case, the final cutoff frequency of the dynamic filter will shift to the upper limit of the audio range. To increase the effect of noise reduction at mid frequencies, you need to turn off pin 7 of DA1. In the noise suppressor modified in this way, there is virtually no loss of fine details of the phonogram at the highest frequencies.

Refinement of the noise suppressor on the K157KhPZ chip

The revision does not require any changes in the printed circuit board (you need to install jumpers instead of resistors). Pin 8 of DA1 can remain in contact with pins 6 and 9.

Adjust the noise suppressor, as usual, when playing a clean, without a phonogram, magnetic tape. The engines of the resistors R3 and R3' are set to the extreme right and top, respectively, according to the position diagram. First, for tapes of type I (or a speed of 9,53 cm / s for reel-to-reel tape recorders), the noise reduction threshold is set with resistor R2, and for tapes of types II, ill, IV (or speeds of 19,05 cm / s) - with resistor R3 when SA1 is pressed. In this case, if the noise of the signal source is small, with fully output R3, it may not be possible to set the noise reduction threshold - in this situation, it is necessary to increase the input signal, and install a divider at the output of the noise suppressor. In this case, nonlinear distortions will increase somewhat, which can be reduced using an external op amp [2].

The author used a dual op-amp KR574UD2B, in the feedback circuit of which capacitors with a capacity of 20 pF were included. Here, the squelch gain is set by changing the feedback depth.

In conclusion, it should be noted that the noise suppressor is very sensitive to external interference and must be shielded, otherwise it will be necessary to increase the capacitances C2 and C4 to the previous value (0,1 μF).

And one more note. IS K157KhPZ with a typical switching circuit creates a noticeable drop in the frequency response at low levels in the high-frequency region, both with and without noise reduction. Therefore, in those tape recorders where the signal passes through the squelch when it is turned off (pins 2 and 9 are connected), a slight change in the correction of the high frequencies of the SW is necessary in order to obtain the same frequency response as before revision. In devices where the signal does not pass through the squelch when the noise reduction is turned off, no changes are required.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Traces of the first Europeans 18.11.2003

On the western slope of the extinct volcano Roccamonfina, 50 kilometers from Naples, archaeologists from the University of Padua discovered traces of three human beings left 325-385 thousand years ago.

They were representatives of the "upright man" species. Their growth is estimated at one and a half meters, foot size - 34th. The distant ancestors of Europeans, descending from the mountain, walked along a layer of volcanic ash, which later petrified, preserving footprints. One of the walkers slipped and left a handprint on the ashes. These are the oldest human footprints in the world, and the oldest hominin footprints are found in Tanzania - they are about 3,5 million years old.

It is curious that the locals, having known these footprints for a long time, considered them to be the footprints of the devil: who else can walk along the volcano, leaving prints in the stone?
