7.6.62. The width of the passages between the machines of spot, roller (linear) and relief welding, when they are located opposite each other, must be at least 2 m, and between the butt welding machines - at least 3 m. less than 1 m, when located on the front and back sides - at least 1,5 m.

7.6.63. Fusion resistance welding machines must be equipped with protective devices (protecting operating personnel from splashes of metal and sparks and allowing safe observation of the welding process), as well as devices for intensive local exhaust ventilation.

7.6.64. To supply welding current to special mobile or suspended resistance welding machines used for welding bulky structures in hard-to-reach places, a flexible hose cable (wire) with insulation and a sheath made of flame-retardant material with air, and in justified cases - with water cooling should be used.

7.6.65. The open-circuit voltage of the secondary winding of the welding transformer of the contact welding machine at the rated mains voltage should not be higher than 50 V.

7.6.66. Suspended spot and roller welding machines with built-in welding transformers must be connected to the network through a separating transformer and have a lock that allows the power circuit to be turned on only when the machine body is grounded.

It is allowed to directly connect the welding transformer (without a separating transformer) to a network with a voltage of not more than 380 V, while the primary circuit of the built-in transformer must have double (reinforced) insulation or the machine must be equipped with a residual current device.

7.6.67. In suspended spot and roller welding machines, the voltage of the control circuits located directly on the welding tongs must not exceed 50 V for AC circuits or 110 V for DC circuits.

As an exception, the voltage of these circuits is allowed up to 220 V AC or DC in the presence of double insulation of control circuits, as well as grounding elements or a residual current device.

The current supply in such machines to welding tongs is recommended to be carried out with a water-cooled wire.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Robot tightrope walker 01.09.2007

A robot in the form of a box on wheels travels around electrical cables, checking their condition.

The temperature sensor allows you to identify places where the cable is heated, acoustic - finds by sound the points where the contacts spark; there is also a moisture sensor that finds those places where water has penetrated the cracks in the insulation and can cause a short circuit. The TV camera transmits everything that enters the field of view of the robot to the control panel. In addition, the robot is equipped with a gyroscope to help maintain balance, and levers with which it restores its position if it does fall off the cable.

The robot was created at the University of Washington by a group of engineers and students led by Professor Alexander Mamishev. The robot was recently tested in New Orleans, where it checked the condition of underground cables after flooding caused by Hurricane Katrina.
