Popular linear integrated voltage regulators, for example, the 78Lxx, 78LRxx, 78Mxx series, at maximum output current, require that the input voltage be at least 1,5 ... 2,5 V more than the output. If a stabilizer with a lower voltage difference is required, microcircuits of the 78Rxx, L88Rxx, 1117-xxx series (0,2 ... 1,5 V) or the ADP3301-xx series (0,1 ... 0,2 V) can be used.

The basis of the stabilizer (Fig. 1) is the ADP3301AR-5 chip. She, like others from this series, is a linear voltage stabilizer. These microcircuits are produced in the SO-8 (SOIC-8) package and for several fixed output voltages: 2,7; 3; 3,2; 3,3 and 5 V. Maximum input voltage - 16 V, maximum power dissipation - 0,4 W, maximum output current - 0,1 A.

An important feature of the microcircuit is the presence of a control input (pin 5), by applying voltage to it, you can turn the stabilizer on and off. The lower limit of the turn-on and turn-off voltage is determined by the ratio of the resistance of resistors R1 and R2. For the resistances indicated in the diagram, the turn-on voltage is 4,85, and the turn-off voltage is 4,7 V. This function can be useful if the power is supplied from the battery. It will not allow you to avoid a deep discharge of the battery or incorrect operation of the device connected to the output of the stabilizer. Capacitors C1, C2, C3 ensure stable operation of the stabilizer.

On transistor VT1, zener diode VD2 and resistors R3, R4, a node is assembled that turns off the stabilizer at an increased input voltage. This feature will avoid overheating of the microcircuit and its damage. For the ratings indicated in the diagram, the stabilizer turns off at an input voltage of 12,2 V or more.

The VD1 diode together with the FU1 fusible link protects the stabilizer and the load connected to it from the wrong polarity of the supply voltage. If this situation is excluded, this diode can be omitted. Diodes VD3, VD4 protect the microcircuit if, for example, a charged capacitor or battery is connected to the output of the VD3 U1GU44 stabilizer. If the stabilizer is built into any device and this situation is excluded, these diodes can also not be installed. When the stabilizer is connected directly to the rectifier, the capacitance of the capacitor at its output must be such that the ripple of the rectified voltage does not exceed several tens of millivolts. You may need to install a 1uF capacitor C1000 for this.

In the manufactured copy of the stabilizer, the minimum input-output voltage was 123 mV (at a load current of 0,1 A), 30 mV (at a load current of 0,01 A) and 9 mV (at a load current of 1 mA). The stabilizer's own quiescent current consumption at an input voltage of 7,2 V is about 200 μA. The current consumption at an input voltage of 9 V was 4,7 mA, and at an input voltage of 19 V - 6,2 mA. Short circuit current - about 230 mA.

All elements (except for the fusible insert) are placed on a single-sided printed circuit board made of foil fiberglass with dimensions of 21x31 mm (Fig. 2, entrance - on the right). It was made to fit stock parts in less than five minutes without sketching and without pre-marking, using a hand mill with a tip diameter of 0,5 mm, rotating at a speed of about 10000 rpm. Printed conductors can also be cut with a cutter, having previously applied their pattern to the board. If the operating conditions are already known at the time of assembly of the device, the dimensions of the board can be reduced by eliminating protective diodes and using smaller capacitors.

Diodes U1GU44 can be replaced by any of the series 1N400x, KD208, KD243, KD247. Replacing the Zener diode TZMC-11 - Zener diode BZV55C-11, 1N4741A, 2S211Ts. Instead of the BC547 transistor, any of the KT3130 series will do. If there are no restrictions on the mounting height, it is not necessary to use a miniature transistor, you can install a conventional one in the TO-92 (KT-26), TO-96S package, for example, from the KT3102, 2SC3311, 2SC2785, 2SC3199, SS9014 series. Capacitors C1, C3 are surface mount tantalum capacitors, note that most of them have a stripe indicating the positive terminal, unless explicitly stated otherwise. Capacitor C2 and resistors - for surface mounting of sizes 0805, 1206. For possible refinement of the device, two short-circuit jumpers (R2 and 00) for surface mounting are installed on the board (Fig. 0) (not shown in the diagram).

When the microcircuit is operating without a heat sink, the maximum dissipated power should not exceed 0,4 W. If a copper or brass U-shaped plate with an area of 3 ... 4 cm is installed on it using heat-conducting glue2, the power will increase to 1W. Please note that, according to the author's experience, defective or expired (thickened) heat-conducting adhesive is often found on sale.

A selection of resistor R2 sets the minimum voltage at which the stabilizer should turn on. The lower the resistance of this resistor, the greater the voltage. The maximum turn-off voltage is set by selecting the resistor R4. By applying a microcircuit from this series with a different stabilization voltage, you can get a stabilizer for the required voltage.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Bicycle anti-theft system 01.04.2005

The American company "Sci-Jack" proposes to embed an anti-theft system in the tubular frame of a bicycle, which is a transceiver with a unique number assigned to it.

If the bike is stolen, the owner must call the police, and special transmitters start broadcasting the number of the stolen bike. Its anti-theft system responds by sending out its signal, which is easy to find.

During the ride, the anti-theft battery is constantly powered by a bicycle speaker.
