Power outages are not uncommon these days. In such a situation, emergency power supply can help out. For example, from a car battery with a home-made voltage converter 12/220 V. I made sure that the supply of electricity is enough for several hours of operation of a modern TV, lighting lamp or other household appliance with a power of up to 100 watts. At the same time, the maximum current consumption from the battery does not exceed 11,5 A.

The electronic heart of the voltage converter under consideration is the master oscillator assembled on the DD1 chip. Moreover, its frequency can, if necessary, be changed by selecting the resistance R2.

The control parameters characterizing the operation of a serviceable idle voltage converter with a freshly charged battery (the readings were taken from a standard VZ-57 ammeter and voltmeter, usually used to measure the RMS value of an arbitrary AC voltage) are summarized in the table.

The pulses generated by the generator are fed to the DD2 chip, which is a modulo 10 counter with a decoder. Conclusions 2, 4. 7, 10 and 5, 6, 9, 11 are combined through diodes VD1 - VD4 and VD5 - VD8 with the passage of two outputs to obtain a temporary gap that excludes the simultaneous presence of transistors VT1, VT2 (and further: VT3 - VT6) in the open state and increasing the efficiency, reliability of the converter, but somewhat lowering the output voltage (up to about 20 V).

If necessary, the time gap can be eliminated by installing two VD1 diodes. Appropriate places for their mounting on the printed circuit board are provided.

Super strong material stronger than diamond 11.07.2020

Japanese scientists have synthesized a new material that is almost one and a half times stronger than diamond.

This material was called "pentadimond". It was developed by scientists from the University of Tsukuba in Japan.

During the experiment, the experts tried to arrange carbon atoms in a more complex structure than they are found in nature. PentaDiamond came out incredibly strong. It is capable of withstanding a voltage of 1700 hPa (hectopascals).

For comparison, diamond breaks down at 1200. The new material is 41% stronger than diamond, but its density is much lower (same as that of graphite).
