When designing a home-made power supply, winding a network transformer causes a certain difficulty, especially in the absence of a winding machine. You can purchase a ready-made transformer, but it does not always provide the required parameters of the power supply. The most time-consuming in the manufacture of the primary winding.

I propose a variant of the design of the transformer, in which there is already a primary winding. A standard magnetic starter of suitable dimensions is required, for example, PME111, etc. Such starters are widely used in industrial electrical equipment. They can be with faulty contacts, a split case, but always with a working retracting coil.

The starter must be disassembled, the coil and both halves of the magnetic circuit removed. There is enough space on the coil to accommodate the secondary winding until the magnetic circuit window is filled. In this case, the main winding is used as the primary winding and is connected to the electrical network. The data for calculating the number of turns of the secondary winding are available on the starter coil itself. It shows the rated mains voltage, mains frequency, number of turns, brand and wire diameter. For example, U=220 V 50 Hz W=4100 vit PEV-2 O 0,14 mm . Based on these data, the number of turns of the secondary winding is calculated depending on the required voltage at its output.

The calculation is made according to the formula WII \u10d WIUII / UI where WII is the number of turns of the secondary winding; WI is the number of turns of the primary winding; UI - voltage on the primary winding; UII - voltage on the secondary winding. The calculated number of turns of the secondary winding must be increased by 15 - XNUMX%. The wire diameter is taken depending on the load current and the conditions for filling the magnetic circuit window. After winding the secondary winding, it must be insulated with any insulating material.

On one of the halves of the magnetic circuit there are short-circuited copper turns. There are two of them in the PME111 magnetic starter I mentioned. These coils need to be removed, you can just open it. This reduces the magnetizing current consumed from the network (no-load current) and the heating of the transformer decreases.

After checking the parameters of the wound transformer, the ends of the magnetic circuit must be glued together. To do this, the ends of both halves of the magnetic circuit must be cleaned of dirt, oil and degreased with a solvent (acetone, etc.). Then grease the ends with epoxy glue, insert both halves into the coil and lightly clamp in a vise. After the adhesive has hardened (24 hours at normal temperature), the transformer is ready. The transformer made in the described way works silently.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The priest had a dog 01.04.2001

The experiment, as if inspired by this endless folk poem, was conducted by employees of the Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig (Germany).

Studying the dependence of the behavior of dogs on the presence of a person, they put some tidbit on the floor in front of the dog and strictly forbade touching it. While the experimenter remained in the room, the dog most often did not have enough food, but after his exit, no more than 5 seconds passed before the forbidden piece disappeared. Then human behavior was made more diverse. In some experiments, while in the room, he looked directly at the dog, in others he sat with his back to it or closed his eyes, or even played computer games.

Conclusion: dogs are able to vigilantly follow the direction of a person’s gaze. If the experimenter did not look directly at the animal, the amount of food eaten contrary to the prohibition doubled.

When a person looked at a dog, if it still grabbed food, in 75% of cases it did it stealthily - walked around the room, as if not paying attention to the treat, and then, as if by chance, grabbed a piece. If the "watchman" played on the computer, then such evasive behavior was observed only in 24% of cases.

The results of the experiment refute the idea of the behavior of dogs as a simple complex of conditioned and unconditioned reflexes.
