A fairly simple regulator of the power supplied to the load can be made using the GRN-1-220 phase regulator module. It is designed for smooth adjustment of the brightness of the glow of incandescent lamps, the temperature of electric heaters (for example, a soldering iron, etc.), and also allows you to adjust the frequency of rotation of collector electric motors. The voltage supplied to the load is controlled by changing the switch opening delay relative to the moment the voltage passes through "0". The small dimensions of such a device make it easy to place it anywhere.

The main technical parameters of the regulator:

  • mains voltage ..... 220 V ± 20%;
  • load current ..... up to 2 A;
  • adjustment range of the effective voltage on the load ..... from 0 to 97%;
  • load power ..... up to 250 W without a heat sink and up to 400 W with a heat sink;
  • operating temperature range -40...+70°С.

The control circuit itself is quite economical and consumes only about 0,7 mA. In this case, the maximum voltage is supplied to the load when the resistor R1 has zero resistance.

Typical switching circuits for different load power are shown in fig. 2.17 and 2.18. When the regulator is operating on an inductive load, it is necessary to connect a series RC circuit in parallel with it.

To control a powerful load, you can use the diagram in Fig. 2.18.

In addition to those shown in the figure, many other types of triacs can be used.

Based on this module, it is easy to make a light switch activated by the illumination of the photosensor (Fig. 2.19).

The tuning of the circuit is carried out when the photoresistor R2 is darkened with the help of the resistor R1 so that the lamp EL1 does not light up.

When light appears, transistor VT1 opens and shorts R4, which causes the lamp to glow.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Insensitivity Mutation 16.01.2018

Molecular biologists from the College of London have identified a mysterious genetic mutation that reduces pain to nothing, allowing the owner of this rare anomaly to endure physical discomfort. The gene variant identified by scientists almost guarantees its carrier the absence of pain, even with serious injuries.

“One of the families examined has inherited a rare point mutation for at least three generations. A mutation in the ZFHX2 gene ensures that they experience little or no pain from burns or fractures - such people do not even always realize that they have been injured. For example , 52-year-old Letitia broke her shoulder while skiing, but continued skiing for the rest of the day," the scientists describe their observations.

This disorder is known as congenital pain insensitivity, but the phenotype of this family is so remarkable that researchers have since named an entire subtype of the disorder "Marsili syndrome." This "blessing" can also be a curse, as the inability to pinpoint pain can mean ignoring serious injuries that may be medical emergencies. “In truth, we sometimes feel pain, that is, we have the perception of pain, but this lasts only a few seconds,” said one of the members of the Marsili family.

While it's not entirely clear exactly how the mutation works, the team suggests that it disrupts ZFHX regulation of other genes associated with pain transmission. The mutation also affects the ability to detect extreme temperatures.
