At home, a power step-down transformer is often required to power the assembled structure. When it is not possible to find a suitable one in terms of parameters among the unified standard ones, it has to be made independently. Depending on the type of magnetic circuit used and its power, one of the values of the current density J in wires 2 is usually taken; 2,5 or 3 A/mm sq.

The cross section (Spp) and diameter (d) of the wire are determined from the ratios:

To wind a transformer, it is often necessary to use copper winding wires of the PEV-1, PEV-2 and PETV brands with enamel insulation. Industry according to GOST 7262-78 produces a large list of wire diameters. Of these, the most commonly used sizes are shown in Table. 6.6 Using this table, you can immediately select the desired wire according to the known current through the winding. The table is calculated for three fixed values of current load (current density): 2, 2,5 and 3 A/mmXNUMX.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Analog Devices MEMS switches instead of relays 14.11.2016

According to Analog Devices, it has achieved a breakthrough in signal switching technology: it has created a long-awaited replacement for the electromechanical relay that has been used in electronics for more than a century.

RF-MEMS switches are smaller, faster, more reliable than their electromechanical predecessors, and consume less power. Moreover, they allow you to bypass many of the limitations inherent in the relay. Note that we are not talking about laboratory development, but about serial products.

A series of fundamentally new products was opened by the ADI ADGM1304 and ADGM1004 models with one channel switched to four positions. The first model is capable of switching signals up to 14 GHz, the second - up to 13 GHz. There are two crystals in the switch case. One is the actual sealed switch with metal contacts and electrostatic control, and the second is the power and control circuit. The switching time is 30 µs, the resistance in the on direction is 1,6 ohms.

Switch resource - at least 1 billion switching cycles. According to Analog Devices, this is an order of magnitude more than the typical life of the relay.

The switches are designed for a supply voltage of 3,1-3,3 V. The dimensions of the ADGM1304 are 5 x 4 x 0,95 mm, the ADGM1004 - 5 x 4 x 1,45 mm. The switches are 95% smaller than their predecessors, 30 times faster and consume 10 times less power.

The price of ADGM1304 is $36,58 each, ADGM1004 is $39,34. The first model is already available for purchase. The second is so far only in the form of trial samples, and it will be commercially available starting in February 2017.
