For the work of an auto electrician, a probe is required that indicates a voltage of about 12 V and is capable of checking the integrity of electrical circuits, incandescent lamps, relay windings, breakdowns in the insulation of electrical equipment.

In most cases, auto electricians use indicators on incandescent lamps, on LEDs, and simple "Chinese" testers. Working with them has a significant drawback, since two wires are required to connect to the circuit, which leads to a confusion of wires, a violation of contact with the car's ground.

I developed a simple probe that does not have these disadvantages, since it uses the body resistance of an auto electrician instead of the usually long wire connected to the car's "mass".

This probe is connected to the measured circuit with only one probe, the function of the second probe is performed by the body of an auto electrician, which frees it from long wires and solves the problem of contact with the "ground". The probe (see figure) consists of a DC amplifier made on transistors VT1, VT2 and loaded on the VD2 LED.

The probe has an overvoltage protection circuit at the input, made on resistors R1, R2 and a zener diode VD1. In the voltage control mode, +12 V is applied to the probe input to the XP1 probe, and minus through the transient resistance of the auto electrician's body to the touch contact E1 "U" and causes the VD2 LED to glow.

In the resistance control mode, the voltage from the internal battery GB1 through the resistor R4, the sensor contact E2 "R", the contact resistance of the body and the circuit under test enters the probe input (XP1 probe) and causes the VD2 LED to glow. As transistors VT1, VT2, you can use KT3102E.

The probe is mounted in any small-sized plastic case (I have it made in the case of a "Chinese" pocket receiver, it has a battery compartment). The XP1 probe is fixed directly on the body of the probe and is a long bolt with a diameter of 3 mm, well sharpened.

Sensor contacts E1, E2 are made in the form of strips of stainless steel, fixed on the body in a convenient place.

Working with a probe

1. In the voltage control mode, the auto electrician takes the touch contact "U" with one hand, and the "mass" of the car with the other hand and, touching the electrical circuit with the XP1 probe, controls the voltage of 12 V by the glow of the LED.

2. In the mode of checking the continuity of the electrical circuit, the auto electrician takes the sensor contact "R" with one hand, and with the other hand and probe XP1 checks the integrity of the circuit. The presence of a circuit is indicated by an LED.

Synthetic nerves work in the light 09.04.2016

Researchers from Oxford have created an artificial analogue of the neural circuit: synthetic cells, packed using a 3D printer in a kind of conductive tissue, were able to conduct an electrical impulse.

Cells, tiny drops of water with a volume of 50-100 picoliters, enclosed in a single-layer lipid membrane. Such drops contained not only water, they also contained DNA with genes encoding transmembrane proteins, and all the necessary apparatus for protein synthesis. Transmembrane proteins synthesized in the "cell" formed a through channel in the membrane - this is how an "intercellular contact" appeared between two drops, through which an electrical signal could slip through. The work of the "nerve chain" depended on lighting - the "cells" also contained a special photosensitive protein, which, under the influence of light, bound to DNA and activated the genes of transmembrane proteins recorded in it.

A dense ordered stacking of droplets was achieved, as mentioned above, using a 3D printer. The very technology of XNUMXD printing from such "cells" has been developed for a long time, but now the authors of the work had to develop a new recipe for them, so that both the "cells" themselves and the molecular machines contained in them for transcription (synthesis of RNA copies to DNA) and translation ( protein synthesis to RNA) after passing through the printer would remain in working condition.

Michael J. Booth and his colleagues believe that the main achievements of Michael Booth and his colleagues are that they managed to build a light switch into the nervous chain, and that the propagation of the impulse was not limited to two "cells", that the signal went further - to the third drop, fourth, tenth and etc. In such an artificial system, it is quite possible to study some patterns of impulse propagation through conductive tissues, but in the future, researchers want to combine artificial cells with real ones.

To do this, two technological problems need to be solved: first, the 3D-printed droplet complexes "live" in an oily environment, while real cells need an aqueous solution; secondly, pore proteins in artificial cells are embedded in a single-layer lipid membrane, while in real cells it is two-layered, and it is not known whether a transmembrane protein pore will form between them. Perhaps the contact between an artificial and a real cell can be organized in the form of a synapse, when a certain space remains between the cell membranes, and the impulse is transmitted using special chemical neurotransmitter molecules.
