Mains voltage in my new house is very stable. Its maximum value does not exceed 160 V, and during peak hours it is 140 V. At this voltage, the bulbs become "eternal" and no circuits need to be assembled. But the TV does not want to work efficiently. Therefore, I had to assemble such a voltage regulator circuit (Fig. 1).

Mains voltage regulator

As an autotransformer T1, a power transformer from a black-and-white lamp TV TS180 was used. The secondary windings from this transformer are removed, and the W1-W2 windings are wound over the primary windings 2-12, each with 37 turns of wire with a diameter of 0,5 ... 0,7 mm. As the SA2 switch, a conventional 11-position switch is used.

The table shows the output voltage values at a certain mains voltage and the corresponding position of the SA2 switch.

Mains voltage regulator

AC voltage voltmeter must have a measurement limit of 250 ... 300 V. Transformer T2 - any power. Its primary winding is designed for a voltage of 230 ... 240 V. The number of turns of the secondary winding W2 is selected experimentally. With an output voltage of 230 ... 240 V, relay K1 should work and normally closed contacts K1.1 disconnect the load from the network. To turn it on, it is necessary to set the SA1 switch to the upper position (turn off) according to the diagram and then, observing the readings of the voltmeter, set the voltage within 2 ... 210 V with the SA225 switch, after which the SA1 switch must be returned to the lower position.

As the K1 relay, the RP21-UHL4B alternating current relay was used. If this is not available, you can use any DC relay with a normally closed contact, with a permissible switching voltage of at least 250 V and a current of at least 2 A, turning it on according to the circuit shown in Fig. 2. As a diode VD1, you can use any diode with the maximum allowable reverse voltage, not less than double the relay operation voltage, and with the maximum allowable forward current, not less than double the current consumed by the relay coil.

Mains voltage regulator

This voltage regulator was tested for 2 months on the Beryozka Ts208 TV. The autotransformer windings did not heat up above the permissible temperature, there were no malfunctions. Moreover, the switch SA2, set to position 7, has never been switched. At the maximum voltage in the network of my house of 160 V, the load was 220 V, and at a minimum of 140 V, the load was 193 V, which ensured the high-quality operation of the TV. This circumstance helps to extend the life of the kinescope, since a reduced voltage is applied to the filament.

To connect a more powerful load, it is necessary to increase the power of the autotransformer T1 and apply the switches SA1, SA2 to the corresponding currents.

There are many cases when the mains voltage exceeds the maximum permissible limits. Even the voltage of 230...240 V does not contribute to the reliable operation of many types of electrical and radio equipment. In this case, the mains voltage must be applied (Fig. 1) to the entire set of W1W12 windings, and removed from intermediate points.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

3D printer to make sports car seats 23.03.2020

Currently, car manufacturers offer seats that are identical in their configuration for production cars and only a few brands include sports seats in the list of options, but the ability to fit them to the figure is limited by the presence of regular adjustments.

At the same time, personal lodgements have long been used in motorsport, which are created taking into account the characteristics of the anthropometric data of a particular pilot. The Porsche brand decided to introduce this technology, albeit in a somewhat truncated form, into road cars, taking 3D printing technology as a basis.

Customers will be offered the option to "customise" the seat to themselves by choosing a bucket seat with printed elements. The chair will be based on a standard frame, which will be complemented by a base made of foamed polypropylene, a breathable core made using 3D printing from polypropylene material and upholstery made of Racetex synthetic material. At the same time, buyers will be given the opportunity to choose the level of stiffness of the padding (hard, medium, soft) and the color of the material, as part of the 3D elements will be exposed through the "windows" in the upholstery.

The first 3D-printed seats will be offered to owners of the Porsche 911 and 718 sports car families from May 2020, but for now it will only be bucket seats for use on race tracks in combination with 6-point seat belts. From mid-2021, Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur will produce seats for everyday use, and later there will be an option to fit the seat to the figure of a particular driver.
