The power supply is made on the basis of two microcircuits and, in addition to them, contains only a few discrete elements. In this regard, it is easy to manufacture and configure. At the same time, the power supply is characterized by high performance, such as smooth voltage regulation over a wide range, low ripple, output current up to 5A with the ability to stabilize the current, high reliability. Also, the power supply has short circuit protection.

The transformer used is the one that produces 25-35 Volts on the secondary winding and at a current of 5 A, its output voltage does not decrease much. 2 4700uF capacitors connected in parallel provide low ripple even before the integrated voltage regulator on the LM338. Potentiometer P1 can change the output voltage of the power supply from 1.5V to 25V. It is convenient to install two potentiometers in series for coarse and fine voltage adjustment. The double switch SW2 connects or disconnects the current stabilizer made on the LM317 chip. The current stabilizer allows you to limit the output current of the power supply within 0 ... 1.5 A

Instead of potentiometer P2, it is better to use a switch with 8-10 fixed values, since it is difficult to set the desired current with a potentiometer. The table gives approximate values of the output maximum current, depending on the value of the resistor connected between the Adj and Out legs of the LM317 chip

Current Resistor resistance
20 mA 62 Om
30 mA 43 Om
40 mA 33 Om
80 mA 16 Om
350 mA 3,9 Om
750 mA 1,8 Om
1000 mA 1,3 Om

The power supply in current stabilization mode is convenient to use for charging batteries with a capacity of up to 15Ah.

The instrument uses a 30V voltmeter and a 5A ammeter.

Both microcircuits are equipped with heatsinks, since they tend to heat up, especially at high output currents, it is advisable to use thermal paste. Naturally, the radiators are different and do not contact each other. A good heat sink will ensure reliable operation of the device. The board, transformer and all controls and indications are placed in a spacious case, there are holes in the case for air circulation.

Transformer winding method: first, the first winding is wound turn to turn. Then we wind the secondary winding in the same way until the entire ring is filled.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Hydrogen moped 14.11.2001

The Italian bicycle company Aprilia, in collaboration with the German company Novars and American scientists, has developed a hydrogen-powered moped.

Gas from a two-liter cylinder enters the fuel cell, mounted under the steering wheel, where it is oxidized on the catalyst with atmospheric oxygen and produces electricity that rotates the electric motor. On a supply of hydrogen, you can drive 100 kilometers at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour. The fuel cell weighs 780 grams and produces 670 watts of power - about a horsepower.

The hydrogen moped is silent and does not poison the air: its exhaust gases consist of water vapor.
