My torch is an ejection type, for high temperature soldering. Works from a cylinder with liquefied gas. It is economical: the amount of gas supplied to the ejector can be adjusted. The burner is arranged as follows. From the reducer or valve valve on the cylinder, gas is supplied through a hose to a supply pipe built into the base of the burner. From there, it enters through the vertical channel of the rack into the central hole of the jet housing, where its amount is dosed by an adjusting needle mounted on a thread in the housing cover. Next, the gas enters the jet and is ejected at high speed through its hole.

Sucking air from the cavity of the air spool necessary for combustion, the gas is supplied through the axial channel of the radiator to the divider, where it is divided into the main, central flow, and the auxiliary one, supplying the peripheral openings of the divider, necessary to maintain the flame. With the help of a rotary spool sleeve with radial holes put on the ejector, the volume of incoming air can be dosed, and with the help of an adjusting needle - the amount of gas. This allows the burner flame to be shaped both in size and quality.

All parts of the burner, except for the handle, are machined on a lathe. An excellent material for making most of them is brass or bronze. They have good thermal conductivity, are strong enough and are not afraid of corrosion. But the jet body, its cover and the jet itself are best made of steel. The easiest way to make an adjusting needle is from a steel knitting needle. And the gland for sealing the thread will have to be machined from fluoroplastic: although the radiator takes some of the heat, the body parts get quite hot.

It is not difficult to manufacture according to the given drawings and assemble the burner. Only with the jet will have to tinker. To get an exit hole with a diameter of about 0,1 mm, I first drill a through hole with a diameter of 0,4 mm, and then gently caulk it with a small ball to the desired size. This work requires patience and skill, so the jet may not work on the first try. But it doesn’t matter: it’s easier to carve a new blank than to try to fix a bad one.

The assembly sequence is as follows. The jet is wrapped in the body, having previously lubricated the mating surfaces with epoxy. On the other side of the housing, a fluoroplastic seal is inserted and tightened with a threaded cap with an adjusting needle. The jet body is placed in the base of the burner and secured with a clamp nut. Then the ejector is screwed onto the body, the spool part and the radiator with a divider are put on. You can light the burner.

The flame of a properly manufactured and adjusted burner will have a blue color and the shape of a straight narrow flame up to 200 mm long.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

Li-Fi network tested at 150 Mbps 28.10.2013

Chinese researchers at Fudan University in Shanghai have announced that they have successfully tested Li-Fi wireless technology.

The principle of operation of Li-Fi is reduced to changing the parameters of the glow of light-emitting diode lamps (LED) at a very high speed. This process is controlled by a special microchip, which encodes information in this way. To register light beams, a special photodetector is used, which performs inverse data conversion. For the human eye, light vibrations remain imperceptible.

Chinese scientists managed to achieve information transfer speeds through Li-Fi up to 150 Mbps. This is higher than the average bandwidth of broadband connections in China.

In the future, Li-Fi may become a low-cost alternative to wireless Wi-Fi networks. Theoretically, cameras of smartphones, tablets, laptops and other gadgets can be used to register Li-Fi pulses.

However, Li-Fi has a very serious limitation: the transmitter and receiver of data must be in line of sight.
