The root of evil

Bible
Bible

Phraseologism: The root of evil.

Meaning: Origin, cause of evil.

Origin: From the Bible. In the Old Testament, in the Book of Job (19:28), it is told about the pious Job, whom God subjected to severe trials. Perplexed by the misfortunes that have befallen him for no reason, Job says to the people persecuting him: "You ought to say, 'Why are we persecuting him?' As if the root of evil had been found in me." There is a similar expression in the New Testament (First Epistle to Timothy of the Holy Apostle Paul, 6:9-10): “But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful lusts that plunge people into disaster and destruction, for the love of money is the root of all evil, which, having indulged, some have deviated from the faith and subjected themselves to many sorrows.

Random phraseology:

They have learned nothing and forgotten nothing.

Meaning:

About political revanchists.

Origin:

From French: "Us n" ont rien appris, ni rien oublie" Mistakenly attributed to Napoleon, Talleyrand and others. Words from a letter (1796) from the French admiral de Pan to the famous journalist of the French Revolution, Malle du Pan. The admiral meant the royalists (from the French word "royal" - "royal"). These supporters of the overthrown royal power in France, perked up during the Directory period (1794-1799), hoping for an early restoration of the monarchy. The expression experienced a second birth after the restoration of the Bourbons on the French throne (1814 -1830) and went down in history as an ironic commentary on the behavior of the last representatives of this dynasty, who returned to power for some time. The admiral's letter became widely known (1851), when the correspondence of the journalist Malle du Pan was published in Paris.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Polymeric material that changes shape under the influence of magnets 13.12.2019

Researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) and Ohio State University (USA) have developed a soft polymer material - a magnetic shape memory polymer - that the magnetic field causes to twist, bend and grab. The material can be used to make grab levers that can lift fragile objects without damaging them, or a load 1000 times its own weight.

The new material is derived from three components, each with unique properties. One of them is shape memory polymers. Materials like these, which change shape when heated and revert to their original state when cooled, have been reported more than once in recent years. For some of them, the difference between room temperature and the temperature of the human body is enough to deform. The new material heats up, cools down and changes shape due to magnets. Two types of magnetic particles - one for induction heating and one with strong magnetic attraction - are the second two "secret ingredients" of the new material.

From the resulting polymer, the scientists made a T-shaped "claw" grip. The impact of a high-frequency magnetic field on the starting material caused the iron oxide particles to heat up by induction and heat the entire "claw". Due to the increase in temperature, the shape memory polymer began to soften and become more ductile. The researchers then "triggered" a second magnetic field, causing the "claws" of the gripper to open and close. Once the shape memory polymers cooled down, they "frozen" in their final position.

The process of changing the shape takes only a few seconds, and the strength of the material in the "frozen" state allowed the gripper to lift objects 1000 times heavier than it. The authors of the development note that their material can be used in robotics: a robotic arm with a grip made of a new material will be able to lift a fragile object without damaging it. Such a tool is useful, for example, in the food industry.
