ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RADIO ELECTRONICS AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING A simple frequency meter from a Chinese receiver. Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering / Measuring technology A simple frequency meter based on a Chinese receiver. Measures up to 200 MHz The most suitable model for rework is the Palito PA-218. The receiver contains a specialized SC3610D chip, which includes a frequency meter + LCD controller + alarm clock. Converting the receiver into a frequency meter will take about half an hour (including coffee and a smoke break). In fact, you just need to remove unnecessary elements - the receiver chip IC2, two resistors R5 and R13, capacitor C25 and transistor Q7. Connect the wire with the "crocodile" to the common one, and solder the wire to the probe-needle fixed to the edge of the case to the C19 capacitor (you can simply melt in a medical metal needle). Of course, if there is a desire, then the receiver can be left, but it will be necessary to exclude the influence of the local oscillator on the input of the frequency meter in the measurement mode. I won’t say much about other models, but the Palito 214 was also reworked with a different microcircuit and worked just as well. So what can the resulting device be used for? 1. Determine the generation frequency of any quartz 500 kHz to 200 MHz (if any). At hand was a circuit with quartz 49 MHz - the device stably determined the frequency without interrupting the generation.
Of course, the measurement error (0,1 ... 0,2 MHz) does not allow for precise adjustments. The device is more intended to assess the performance of a node or device as a whole in the absence of an oscilloscope at hand or at high operating frequencies.
