When repairing electronic equipment, it is often necessary to replace non-volatile memory chips (EEPROM). As a rule, the operability of an electronic device is restored only after pre-programming the microcircuit with certain information specific to this model.

Currently, equipment for various purposes uses EEPROMs with an external interface I2C, in particular, microcircuits of the 24cXX series from various manufacturers.

There are many PC-controlled programmers that allow you to program EEPROMs and PIC controllers. As an example, programmers PonyProg, IcProg, EasyProg and others can be cited. The hardware part of the programmer is a device that coordinates between the port of a personal computer and the programmable microcircuit. Various circuit implementations differ from each other mainly only in greater or lesser redundancy and the type of computer interface used - parallel or serial.

Programming of most microchips does not cause difficulties. However, when programming chips like PCF8582 from PHILIPS SEMICONDUCTORS using the I2C, sometimes the chip is not programmable.

The reason for this can be explained as follows: the internal architecture of the PCF8582 chip is somewhat different from the architecture of the 24cXX series chips and requires an additional synchronization signal during the write operation to the memory cells (pin 7 of the RTS chip). The developers of this microcircuit provide 2 ways to synchronize the erase/write unit of the microcircuit:

  • the use of external synchronization of the erase / write cycles by applying an external clock signal to the pin. 7;
  • the use of a built-in clock generator, to activate which to the pin. 7 of the microcircuit, an external RC circuit is connected (see figure).

PCF8582 chip pinout

There is no need to consider in detail the operation of the internal components of the microcircuit. It should only be noted that for normal operation of the PCF8582 chip in all modes using an internal clock generator, the manufacturer recommends maintaining the write / erase cycle duration from 7 to 10 ms.

To do this, the parameters of the RC circuit must be as follows: R = 22 kOhm, C = 2200 pF.

It should be noted that many people program the PCF8582 chip by selecting it in the menu, like 24cO2, and when it is installed in the programmer panel, the pin. 7 is left free. But, as already mentioned, the result is not always positive.

Connecting an external RC circuit with the specified parameters ensures the formation of internal clock signals for erasing/writing, which guarantee stable operation of many programmer software shells with microcircuits of this type.

Thus, in order to refine existing programmers designed for programming 24c02 microcircuits, it is necessary to disconnect the pin. 7 of the installation panel from the common wire and connect the RC circuit to it according to the figure. In addition, between vyv. 7 and with a common wire, it is necessary to install switch B1 (see Fig.). In the closed state of switch B1, the programmer provides programming of 24cXX microcircuits, and in the open state - PCF8582.

The expediency, simplicity and usefulness of this technical solution is confirmed by positive feedback from equipment repair specialists.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Atomic takeover 04.09.2006

The sharp tip of a tunneling microscope's needle can pick up and move atoms - but only one atom at a time. In principle, this process makes it possible to assemble nanotechnical devices built from individual atoms, but the work is progressing very slowly.

Scientists from the French Center for the Development of New Materials, in collaboration with colleagues from the Free University in Berlin, have created a tip molecule for the tip of a tunneling microscope.

The molecule, which is based on a benzene ring of six carbon atoms, captures up to four atoms at once and allows them to move with an accuracy of 0,1 nanometers.
